Moms with Dogs (or anyone with good ideas)

Any thoughts on how to make the dog's food and water accessible to the dog, but not the baby?

Re: Moms with Dogs (or anyone with good ideas)

  • my Dogs are outside and live in the barn so I'm not much help, but I saw this on google... it's for cat litter but the same kind of idea might work depending on how big your dog is

ETA: my sister also used to keep her Dog's water in the bathtub so the dog could hop in and out and the babies couldn't get at it

The litter box hider is genius!

I have no idea what we are going to do about this when D gets mobile.

  • Coppers food is right in the kitchen. We have a gate that goes from the hall to the kitchen so Maggie can't get into it. Now it is 100% accessible to the dog, but we can tell when he wants it and when Mags is sleeping or not here the gate stays open for the dog.

  • We have a cat door into the garage so the dogs keep out of the cat's food and litter box. Could work with a doggy door to keep kids out too. I like the bathtub idea as well.

  • Nala only gets fed 2 times a day but she doesn't usually eat it right away. after Eli tried eating the food (had it in his mouth and its choking hazard) we started feeding her outside we just set her bowl on the steps and she eats out there. We also always keep a water dish outside so when she is out she can have some. Inside we keep it on the counter. When she is thirsty she walks over to where her dish is and barks or whines then we put it down. She learned to adapt really fast.

I think this would only work for a short time. If we had a doggy door and Mags so Copper go through it, she would crawl right after him. These dang kids are too smart haha.
