Question about timing

I don't want to beat the bush, but this is something that I am most worried about in the whole moving/buying a house process - lol  We will be putting down an offer on a house within the next couple weeks, all the finances are in order - all is good on that front.

What I'm really wondering about is once a contract has been accepted, how soon do you find out what your closing date is. I realize that that's not set in stone, but having an estimate time is required for me to be able to ask off for work. We are planning on taking our week vacation right after we close to give us a full week to move  (just across town - easy move) and I want to be able to have enough time to find a replacement for that week. I work in the ER, so it's essential that we have two weeks notice before any schedule changes.  Just curious as to who actually sets that closing date and how quickly you find out what the "goal" is for the date.

Thanks all!! You'll rock on this board. I'm honored to be amonst fellow nesties :)

Re: Question about timing

  • Talk with your lender. You should be able to get a commitment letter 2 weeks before the move date. If not, talk with him about the reality of the date. When you put in the offer, you put in a date you want to do the close on. If you have a good loan officer and realtor who can get all the ducks in a row, you should be able to meet that date.

  • We closed on the date agreed upon in the offer. Our lender and lawyer and REA all had their sh!t together so we didn't have to deal with any snags or delays.
