Hurricane irene

I really hope she doesn't come up the northeast... I am not feeling a hurricane this summer.... They are not fun as adults or homeowners.... Sigh..

  • I am so angry with mother nature lately!!! This was supposed to be our girls weekend down the beach!! We've had it planed for months!!! Crying We are going to dicuss our options at lunch today. GO AWAY IRENE!!!

    Yes and all we'd do is ride our bikes around the 'hood b/c there was nothing else to do. Those were the days. Now, I've got hit the stores tonight and stuff to be prepared since we're out of town Saturday.

    "Major Hurricane Irene poses a significant threat to life and property from eastern North Carolina to New England.  Several well-known computer models across the scientific community have shown Irene bisecting the Delmarva peninsula, or crossing into the Delaware Bay or even drifting into the Chesapeake Bay and slowing down. The impact and property damage potential of that outcome would exceed Katrina. 


    The Ocean City, MD example Sustained hurricane force winds of 90 mph in downtown Ocean City, MD would breach the dune line. Waves of 20-25 feet would reach the first floors of many high end resort buildings. Surge exceeding 6 feet would inundate most of the city, with most wooden structures in downtown Ocean City destroyed.  We have high confidence in this scenario, extrapolated from the "
     
    This terrifies me and I dont care what the other girls are doing I'm not going to the beach this weekend. I am now also worried about my house b/c we live in a water front neighboor hood. We are a block and half fromt he water. :-( All of the water front homes in my neghborhood had to be rebuilt after Hurrican Isabell.

    We would drink, as usual. A bunch of drunk high school kids riding out the "storm". Super safe.

    Sounds horrible.

    Last year we had a big scare with Hurricane Earle. He passed right through with NO STORM to us or anywhere near the cape.

  • I don't mind having off from work for a hurricane, because some of the ones we've had are pretty scary.  I get irked when we do have work canceled, and then the hurricane changes path, and we have a day of light rain, or worse, a sunny day.  What a waste.
