Re: BOTB

  • TTC: Did you have a TTC check with your OB/GYN before starting?Yep, all she (at the time, before I changed Drs) told me was to take my vitamins and to come see her if we had any trouble.

1st trimester: If you?re pregnant with #2 (or 3 or 4), were your early symptoms the same or different than #1? n/a

2nd trimester: Do you know you OB?s c-section rate? Does it concern you? His is/was 8% for first timers, higher if you count second time Mom's since our hospital doesn't qualify for VBAC. I was totally comfortable with that number, I just didn't want to have a Dr that was "scalpel happy" as I like to call it.

3rd trimester: Does your OB do internal exams? No, and I was pretty happy with that.

L&D: Other than seeing your baby, what is your favorite moment in L&D? Having my H talk me through contractions and my brother rubbing my feet at the same time was really amazing, I felt really supported.

First days: What?s been your biggest surprise about parenthood so far? How fast the time goes. I ache when I see a brand new baby and already miss that time.

  • TTC: Did you have a TTC check with your OB/GYN before starting?  no, i did tell my GP that we were planning on TTC soon and he said that was fine.

1st trimester: If you?re pregnant with #2 (or 3 or 4), were your early symptoms the same or different than #1? n/a

2nd trimester: Do you know you OB?s c-section rate? Does it concern you? no, i don't, and it doesn't concern me.  in NZ, c/s are pretty much done if it is required...you know, part of the socialized health care scheme.

3rd trimester: Does your OB do internal exams? When does s/he start doing them? If yours does not routinely do them, did you want them?  no, internal exams.  i had one at the last appointment b/c she wanted to see where i was before being induced the next day.  i hated it, so i am glad that i didn't have to have more than that one.

L&D: Other than seeing your baby, what is your favorite moment in L&D? listening to cat stevens with DH while we waited...and waited...and waited.

First days: What?s been your biggest surprise about parenthood so far?  how awesome it is knowing that he's ours and we made him and how lucky we are.

Updates:  it's my birthday on saturday, and i am so glad i get to share it with DH and DS :)

  • TTC: Did you have a TTC check with your OB/GYN before starting?

I last saw my OB over a year before TTC, but I knew we would be TTC before I'd see her again (Kaiser does paps every 2, sometimes 3 years), so I asked her about it in general.  She just said to start taking a PNV once I went off the pill and to go off the pill when I was ready to TTC.  She wasn't concerned about going off earlier or anything, but we did ditch the BCP soon after that and practiced FAM to avoid pregnancy for almost a year before TTC.

1st trimester: If you?re pregnant with #2 (or 3 or 4), were your early symptoms the same or different than #1? N/A

2nd trimester: Do you know you OB?s c-section rate? Does it concern you? I do not, but with Kaiser I can deliver with midwives, rather than the OB's, and I wouldn't be delivering with my own OB anyway.  I opted to go to the Kaiser hospital with a lower c-section rate overall though.

3rd trimester: Does your OB do internal exams? When does s/he start doing them? If yours does not routinely do them, did you want them? Yes, she did the first one at 36 weeks, then 38, and she will probably want to do one today at 40.  I had planned to opt out of them, but since I found the first one pretty painless and actually liked knowing what was going on down there (even though I know it's not an indication of labor or anything, I've just gone with it.

Updates: Today is my EDD.  I have a doctor's appt at 11:30.  I had a slightly restless night of "sleep" as I think I've been having contractions all night - short ones, more uncomfortable than painful, and spaced probably 8-15 mins apart (or more).  Todd's off to work this morning and I'm trying to finish up the few last minute things on my to-do list that I'd really like to finish before baby.  We are so very excited though :)

  • TTC: Did you have a TTC check with your OB/GYN before starting? I had my annual exam and asked if there is anything I'd need to do prior, other than PNV.  I got up to date on some vaccines that were recommended in addition to starting PNV.

1st trimester: If you?re pregnant with #2 (or 3 or 4), were your early symptoms the same or different than #1?N/A

2nd trimester: Do you know you OB?s c-section rate? Does it concern you? Kaiser Santa Clara has a low C-section rate so I am not concerned about it being forced upon me unnecessarily.

3rd trimester: Does your OB do internal exams? When does s/he start doing them? If yours does not routinely do them, did you want them?  She is leaving it up to me so we did not do one at 36 weeks and are not planning to at 38 weeks either.  We plan to at 40 weeks though.

Updates:  My EDD for the next up list is 9/10 :)

  • TTC: Did you have a TTC check with your OB/GYN before starting?

    No.

1st trimester: If you?re pregnant with #2 (or 3 or 4), were your early symptoms the same or different than #1?

#3 for me... They were the same as #1, #2 was a little different. Interestingly, 1st & 3rd are girls, 2nd was a boy :-)

2nd trimester: Do you know you OB?s c-section rate? Does it concern you?

No idea. I'm not too concerned, and the chances that I'll deliver with my OB are slim to none (Kaiser)

3rd trimester: Does your OB do internal exams? When does s/he start doing them? If yours does not routinely do them, did you want them?

Yes, they do internals. I think I got my first one around 37 weeks. I like to know what's going on down there. Any progress is good news.

L&D: Other than seeing your baby, what is your favorite moment in L&D?

First days: What?s been your biggest surprise about parenthood so far?

    Updates:

Due date came and went yesterday. I had a few contractions last night that were about 6-7 min apart for a couple hours, but petered out instead of progressing :-( I've been hours on end to get them going! Induction is scheduled for the 4th if she doesn't make her own appearance by then....
