Book Help for H

Ok, so I have my list of books and am popping by the library tonight to get them.  I emailed Andy to ask what he wanted.  He's been super busy at work and responded he hasn't had a minute to research.  Here's his input:

"a non-fiction wilderness survivial story would be awesome."

He's read the Krakauer books (Into the Wild and Into Thin Air) and a couple by Bill Bryson (A Walk in the Woods and In a Sunburned Country).

Any ideas from all of you awesome, smart, reading ladies?

Re: Book Help for H

  • I've got nothing that meets that criteria.  Sorry!

Maybe pop over to the book board.  I don't frequent there often, but they've offered good suggestions when I have posted.

I will do this right now!  I actually kind of forgot there was a book board here. Embarrassed

  • Didn't Aron Ralston write a book about his experience being trapped by the boulder and cutting off his arm to get out alive?

  • Hmmm... books about John Muir?  It's not so much a "survivial story"... more of a "being story" I guess.

  • Sorry I am no help.  The only Authors of that genre that I have read are Bryson and Krakauer.

I wonder if there is a website that can recommend books.  Kind of an "if you liked you might also enjoy. . ."

Good thinking - he did write a book but my KDL search shows it's not on the shelf at my local library.  Grrr, that would have been perfect - and I could have requested it from another library if I'd reminded Andy earlier.

GRSP - Another good idea - my search for top rated books about and/or by John Muir found a lot I think he'd like - the only one available at my library is The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America.  It's not by or about Muir but it popped up in my Amazon search. :-)

Also, he'd love a good baseball read if any of you have any rec's for that!

    Thanks again ladies!!

My H read Moneyball by Michael Lewis and I know he enjoyed it.

Ooo, interesting.  My check on KDL shows all copies are "In Processing" whatever that means.  I'll still look for it tonight though.

An update on my list from suggestions from the Book Board, right now I've got these on the list:

The Big Burn, The Children's Blizzard and The Teammates.  I think I'm going to send him the descriptions of each book and let him pick his top 2 - but if you have any more ideas to add to the list they are welcome!

  • I was going to suggest Roosevelt too.

Which park(s) are you guys going to again?

Grand Tetons for 4/5 days then Yellowstone for 4/5 days.  SO excited to get back to the mountains, it's been 2 years since our last backpacking trip! :-)

?  I know it's too late to order, but maybe they'll sell it at the park?
