how to deal with a job offer and interviews lined up?

I went on a job interview today and according to the employer they want to discuss a few details and will get back to me with an offer; however, I have a couple of other interviews lined up and one for a position I would much prefer.  In case they get back to me sooner than my interview, how should I approach this.  Like I said, the next interview is for a job I really want but don't want to turn this down too soon.

TIA.

Re: how to deal with a job offer and interviews lined up?

  • When is the next interview? I think if they called with an offer you can say "give me a day to think about it" or something along those lines. But if they call with an offer and your next interview isn't for a week away then you may have to just make a decision. if you think this is a job you would enjoy then go for it. If you are taking it just because it is another job then it would be ok to pass on.
  • Ask for an offer in writing to look over the details, and say you want to get back to them by X date. Make that date after the other interview but not too long (let's say a week after you get the offer).

Tell the other interview that you have an offer from another company, but you *really* want to work for them.
