Three Word Thursday

What are three words that..... describe your current home?

Elaborate on your choices if you want.

**Edit - the words don't necessarily have to be adjectives.  They can be any words that remind you of your home, or that you associate with your home.

Re: Three Word Thursday

  • Small - as in big enough for single me. Not big enough for married, thinking about kids me.

Underwater - as in worth probably $50k less than I owe.

Mine - I'm still pretty proud that I bought it on my own at 21. (I tried to make a positive one Wink )

  • Sentimental - Not normally a word you'd use to describe a house, but my grandparents actually built this house in the 50's and my Mom grew up here with her brothers.  I have a lot of memories in this house as a child.

Cozy - This is my way of softening the fact that it feels too small at times and we could really use more closet space and another bathroom!

Maintenance - We've pretty much redone the inside of the house, but the outside of the house needs some work.  It's frustrating because DH works crazy hours and doesn't exactly feel like painting siding and doing landscaping when he gets home, but I'm not exactly able to do any of that work right now.

  • I am sure these words will change once we have kids, but these are my thoughts

Spacious- We had been living in a small apartment and dorms, so anything bigger than that feels big for the 2 of us! :)

Home- We spent the summer painting, hanging pictures, decorating, and making it ours.

Ours- After living in dorms, apartments, and my parents house for months while purchasing it's so nice to  have something that is  ours,

  • White-to market the home, the sellers painted everything white. Nice that we don't have to prime....but there's a lot of painting to do! Unfinished-it won't be totally "us" until we get the granite in the kitchen and put hardwood down in the kitchen. Different: our last sub was a lot more grand than this sub. Granted, we spent about $100k more last time...we know now we'd rather spend more money elsewhere (retirement, college, vacations etc) than we did last time. Nonetheless, I miss the boulevards in our last sub, the ban on street parking and recreational vehicles, and my mailbox in front of my house. I miss them enough that if people with homes like my old one were actually selling them in this market, I would have been tempted to say screw it and pay a lot more than we wanted to this time around ;-) oh well. New city, new adventure :-)

  • Messy- the kids have dumped toys all over the living room/breakfast nook area this morning

Outdated- We're going to remodel soon our kitchen & 3 of the bathrooms.  The bathrooms all have wallpaper from the 70's or 80's, I can't wait to get rid of it & have something normal!

Small-I use to think it was so spacious, now add 2 kids & it gets small really quick.

  • Frustrating - some of you may know, our house has been torn apart since early May to completely demo the kitchen one of the baths, redo hardwood floors, paint, and put in carpet.  And then we were a victim of a flooded basement so that kind of sidetracked things.  We are SO CLOSE to being done, but it's still a daily headache for me.

Ours - along those lines, I finally feel like the house is "ours."  DH bought the house on his own and when I moved in, I really struggled with it.  I felt like it was his house, and I have a hard time feeling at home.  We've spent a lot of money to update our house and I love feeling more comfortable.

Upside-down (can I count this as one word?) - Like many people, DH bought this house 5 1/2 years ago and we are completely upside down on it.  As in, there are foreclosures 5 houses down selling for less than half of what DH paid.  So sad.  But we're here for the long haul (like it or not), so we'll have to be patient while the market turns around.

  • Messy - My house needs to be picked up.  But when DH and I get home from working our 11 hour days neither one of us wants to do it.  Instead we eat dinner, watch about an hour of TV, and then go to bed.  And the last few weekends have been so busy I havent had time to pick up then either.  So maybe this weekened it will happen.

Overgrown -  Again, long hours makes it hard to find the motivation to do yard work.  We do keep it mowed, but the landscaping needs help.  Some special person who lived in our house before us thought it would be a good idea to use little white rocks as part of the landscaping, which wouldnt be so bad if we didnt have an acorn tree (I know, thats not what they are called, but thats how I referred to this devil tree, it drives my DH crazy when I call it that) dropping hundreds and hundreds of acorns in with all the rocks....there is only one way to seperate those.....

Big - For now it is only DH and I in a 4 bedroom house, so it feels big.  I know as soon as we have kids it wont feel that way.  But for now we have our bedroom, my craft room, an exercise room, and a room for the cats (I kid you not, their litter boxes are in there along with their cat beds and toys.  Thats it, nothing else is in there).

  • Empty: We just moved in a few months ago and we literally have an empty front room.  We're thinking it will either be a formal dining room or we might use it as a more formal reading room/living room.  We'll see...

White: We have no color on the walls yet and it's a new build so it's all white Sad  We'll get that taken care of eventually.

A mess: Because, let's be honest, it is... I really need to work on decluttering a bit... I had a goal to get it clean this week, while DH is out of town, but it just didn't happen Sad

This really makes it sound like i'm down on my house, but I really do love it!!!  It is a great size for us and there is so much potential, we just need to do a few things!!!

  • Impersonal - it doesn't feel like a home yet.  It doesn't feel like it's mine. We moved in six weeks ago and DH has been doing a TON of work outside but the inside has been suffering.  Plus we're making the furniture/decorations that we have work in there but I haven't wanted to spend much decorating money because we've been spending our money on other things lately.  I'd like it to feel homier by the time we have baby.  We better get moving!!

Messy - we haven't unloaded all of our boxes or found spaces for all of our things so there are things that are just laying around the house - don't really have a place to be put away. This is getting on my nerves.

Stressful ? the above is making me (and DH) crazy and we want to get everything done before baby comes.  And I get more useless by the day.  Ugh.

(I?m kinda Debbie Downer huh?  I really do like the house ? but I?m tired of not feeling settled.)
