Oh My--Mirena is expensive

So I went in hoping to get this but she asked if I knew for sure if insurance covered it.  I told her I didn't think to call ahead.  Luckily it does and I have to go back but that crap costs $1,000!!

Praise the lord for maxing out my insurance premiums becaue I won't have to pay a dime.

Re: Oh My--Mirena is expensive

  • Yes it is!  Our insurance has crappt deductibles but they do pay 100% of family planning so I didn't pay a dime for mine thank goodness
  • Consider yourselves extremely lucky - our insurance doesn't cover any of that type of stuff!!!
  • OMG!  I swear when I asked about it a while back it was covered under a regular $35 RX copay...
  • I think I paid about $130 for mine after I had met my deductible for the year.  It sucked but it's way cheaper than paying for a pill or something monthly.  I only had it for about 20 months but it more than paid for itself.

  • Yeah, my OB told me it was $1500 "retail".  That's why they tell people do get it at the beginning of the year or at the end so you either max out your deductible early or have already met it.

  • My insurance doesn't cover it even if you HAVE met your deductible for the year. But, Mirena offers a $35 a month payment plan for 2 years.

  • Mine was $0 since I had maxed everything out with Amelie's birth. Just before I got married, 7 years ago, I tried to get Mirena. With no insurance coverage for it it was going to cost me $400 including insertion. Yes that was 7 years ago, but my EOB said $900 when I got this one including insertion. Why so much more expensive now?

  • Yeah my whole trip ended up being $1500 because I had to get an ultrasound as well (I guess that's the practice now, or at least at my OB, since I had a C-section), but luckily my deductible was met so it only cost me about $300. I figured it was better then paying the $75 for the depo shot every few months. I don't know why depo was so expensive on my plan, but it was ridiculous.
