Hi ladies, I'm new to TriCare and was wondering what the best way to fill a prescription would be in my particular situation. I've looked on-line to find out the options, but figured I'd also get some advice first hand.
I've got to get a new prescription of BC in the next few weeks from the MTC and get that filled within a week of getting the prescription. After this, I'm going to be moving to a different region (so I won't be able to go to that post to fill the prescription).
How has everyone's experiences with filling prescriptions via a regular pharmacy or through the mail been? I'm not sure if I need to ask for two prescriptions in my case.
Re: Filling a Prescription with TriCare...
You just get the civilian pharmacy to call over to the MTC's pharmacy and transfer the script. It takes like ten minutes.
I do it all the time because while scripts on post are free, sitting around for 45 minutes isn't my definition of fun. I'd rather pay my $3-9 bucks to Target or Walgreens and pick out some make up in the 15 minutes it takes them to fill it.

I've never done a Tricare prescription at a regular pharmacy. My understanding is that if I did that I'd pay a small co-pay.
Regarding the mail one...where I get mine filled the first time you fill it you have to bring the presciption to them. After that, you just call the number on the bottle/packet and they'll send it to you via snail mail. You'd have to make sure your address changes with them when you move. I'm not sure how changing regions might effect that though since our only moves since I got on Tricare have been local.
Since you know you're moving and bc isn't something you want to chance missing, I'd suggest having your PCM fill out two separate prescriptions. One with a 2 month supply, written so you can pick it up all at once at your current location. The other with the remaining number of packets for you to turn in at your new pharmacy.

I use the base pharmacy, because they have a refill location only a few minutes away from me. It's ready the day after I call it in, and they fill my BCP for 3 months at at time. I did go to Rite-Aid before going to medical on base for my new script, and it was a $3 copay. When I moved here I just told my old doctor (civilian) that I needed a new script to take with me.
Did you already make your appointment to go in? Just be careful waiting until the last minute, although I don't know what the wait time is at your base. I had to wait almost a month before I could get an appointment, and it sounds like you're on a time crunch.
