Slight case of OCD? Help!
Hey all..I am seeing if anyone else has problems with thinking they left things on, garage door not shut, front door not locked etc. like I do. Last year I slightly freaked a couple of times about my garage door being open (drove home from going to work a few times, had to have a friend drive by the house when I was out of town to check) but this year has gotten way worse. Twice this week I have had to go home (once all the way from work 20 minutes away) to make sure something was ok (i.e. fridge door was shut and back door was locked and shut were this week's). Does anyone else have these frequent need to check and double check? If so, is there anything you do to help alleviate your concern. My next step is to post a checklist by the door I go out of and to double check before I even leave the house, its getting ridiculous that I drive home from work because I start getting so anxious about things. Just wondering if any hints out there TIA!

This sounds like generalized anxiety. I dont think shut doors/garage doors are actually the issue here. Do you have underlying things going on, and maybe this anxiety is manifesting in these OCD behaviors?
lol, can you tell I work with therapists all day..
A few kind of new things going on in my life: school starting, busy time of year, etc. but I feel like I have had worse stress times in my life and that I never acted this way before. The main thing is that little things have been going wrong lately that I should be able to control and have made mistakes or just been in general really forgetful(as in I didn't shut the freezer door all the way and ruined over a 100 dollars of meat) and I think that I need to get more positive about good things happening in the future and that maybe it will eventually go away. Or as other posters have said...slow down a little to make myself feel better.
*I am not afraid to get help, have even said that I will most likely seek someone next week if the problems continue to persist but was hoping that my "checklist" will at least alleviate this issue for awhile...
Well, you never know how stress will affect you at different points in your life. Honestly I have found that someones I FEEL the most stressed out when in reality, I have very little stress in my life.
Try the checklist - maybe if you do it for a couple weeks you'll eventually "wean" yourself off and find that you're less stressed about those things. I think (personally) it's pretty soon to go and seek professional help.. but, you do whats best for you!
I do. I just keep on driving and talk scenarios through with myself. Well, if I did leave the garage door open, what is the worst thing that can happen... someone will take our stuff. That is just stuff, no big deal.
Not once have I ever found the garage door open so it is really not a good use of my time to double check myself on these types of things....
