What do you say when you need time to consider
a job offer? Is it lame to say you want to talk it over with DH? What do you usually say when you get an offer - do you always take time to make your decision?

I wouldn't say you need to talk it over with your H, just say that you'd like XX hours to make a decision.
And if they haven't already provided it ask for information on salary, benefits (insurance, 401k, etc.) and vacation time to consider when making your decision. Especially as we're getting into the later part of the year - make sure that you have enough vacation time for the holidays.
Something along the lines of "I'm really excited about the opportunity, but want to take the evening to think it over."
"Evening" can be substituted with "next day or so" or "weekend."
Personally, being in HR, I get anxious when I don't have a response within 24 hours. That is a red flag to me - and I rescind the offer after 48 hours.

Seriously?! I've had more than one HR rep tell me to take a week to decide. I never do, but that's what they told me.
Is that after you've agreed on a timeline that is more than 48 hours?
I work in a place that is very much desired. And, I have a billion applicants, many qualified, for every position. If someone is playing games, I'm over it.
Of course if they have a good reason and we discuss a different timeline, that is a different story. Or, if we're in salary negotiations, that is different too. If they're just wishy washy, then forget it.
