What's your commute?

I commute 22 miles each way every day. I so want a change. I'd love to work in the same town I live in.

Re: What's your commute?

  • 9 miles but takes about 20 minutes to get from house to desk. I'd like to work about 10 min or less that way I could go home over lunch if I wanted. I go every once in a while but it seems like by the time I get home and make/or grab food on the way then I have to turn around.

The job before this was a 30 min commute and I hated it. It was mostly interstate and sucked in the winter. During a snow or ice storm it could take 1 hour+ to get to work.

  • My last job was 30 miles from my house. The drive took anywhere from 45-60 min to 2-3 hours depending on the number of accidents for the day.
  • When I worked FT I was commuting 52 miles each way. Now I freelance from home.

  • 22 miles or 50 minutes with no accidents.

  • My commute is all highway. 4 days a week I travel 47 miles each way and one day a week I travel 100 miles each way. Sad
  • I live less than a mile from the school where I teach.  I can drive in 2 or 3 minutes, or walk (my preference) in about 15-20

  • 37 miles each way, so about 45-50 minutes. I teach and would LOVE a close to home job, but with this economy & lack of jobs available, I don't see myself moving anytime soon.

Plus I have a great staff and good kids to work with at a small school. Paying $300 a month in gas is just a price to pay for a quality job I guess!

  • I live just under 15 miles from work, and it takes just about 20 minutes each way (mostly highway- thankfully away from downtown Cleveland, so I go against rush hour traffic).

  • I walk 20 minutes to the bus stop and bus in for 25 minutes.  But, on the bus I knock out a few emails/text messages/facebook/read on a Kindle/etc.  I get all my personal stuff done on my bus commute, and my daily exercise (I should get more, I know) walking to/from the bus.

  • My commute is 18 miles. On the weekend with no traffic, it takes me about 25 minutes. On regular commute days with average traffic, it takes 45-60 minutes (this morning was 55). On days where there is terrible traffic it can take upwards of 2 hours. When that happens, I just stay in the area around my office until traffic clears.

  • I don't know how many miles...but it would take me 40 minutes to drive with no traffic.  However, due to traffic, I commute on a train.  Door to Desk my trip to work takes a minimum 1 hour 10 minutes.

I used to work in the same town that I live in and I loved it!  My drive to the train now is longer than my drive to the office used to be.

  • I am not sure of the miles, but it takes me 30-45 min both ways. I love the district I work for and don't want to leave but I hate the drive.
  • 5 minutes each way.

My last job was 1.5 hours each way (public transportation)

  • I commute 9 miles and it often takes me 40 minutes because of stinkin D.C. traffic.

This is exactly my situation except I drive 52 miles each way.  Right now it takes about an hour, but they are building a four line highway to replace to two lane country road I take so I think it will go down to about 45-50 minutes once that is done.  My job is too good to give up.

  • 45 miles one way. About an hour in and an hour and some returning home.
  • Its 35 mins each eay with no traffic and back roads and thats an improvement.  My other job was an hour each way. In the area I live there arent many jobs or even ones that pay well so i have to travel south for it.

  • It's just about 83 miles each way, so 1 hour 40 mins, or almost 4 hours round trip.  I have a Jetta TDI (diesel) and monthly fuel budget definitely hurts.  I've been doing it just over 3 years, in order to be close to family.

Yeah, I really need a new job. Sad

This is exactly what I was going to say, 7 minutes and I do love the option of going home for lunch

  • Less than 10 minutes each way.  I love getting to go home at lunch and let my dog out.  I have an interview for a new position I really want tomorrow, though, and the downside is my commute will be over an hour each way until DH finds a new job and we can move.
  • 5 days a week I go 17 miles and it takes about 1/2 an hour each way.

1 day a week I go 18 miles and it takes about 20 minutes each way.

The 18 mile commute is mostly highway, where 5 days a week I'm going down main streets, but no highways.

  • Used to be 55 miles (1.5-2 hours), we just moved so now its 22 miles (.5-.75).

I'm in the L.A. area too so I understand your pain!
