Last week, I had invited the superintendent (with my principal's blessing) to come and shadow me for a day. His background is in Secondary Ed, so Pre-K is a side he hasn't seen much, if any, of in his career. He is in the midst of making and passing down several very unpopular and micro-managing decisions, so I thought he should come see some of the people who are going to be affected (and essentially screwed) by his decisions. This man has allegedly taken a $30k raise this year while telling the 9 Pre-K teachers and 9 assistant teachers in the county that the district couldn't help us out with the 10% of our pay that we lost due to state cuts. Here is the email I wrote to him:
Mr. *******,
I would like to invite you to come and shadow me for a
day or at least a portion of a day. I understand that you are very busy,
but I feel it would be beneficial to you to see what a day at the Pre-K
level is like. This would allow you the opportunity to get to know a
set of students and teachers on a more personal level. It is a blessing
for me to work with these children on a daily basis. I would like to
share that blessing with you as well as let you become acquainted with
the youngest children that you speak for and serve. I understand if you
are unable to attend, but would love to have you for a day!
His response:
I would be more than glad to shadow you for at least a half-day. How about next Thursday, August 25th? I have a meeting beginning at 11:30 a.m. so I could spend the morning with you and your students if this works for your schedule.
He even came in person to confirm this with me the day the emails were sent (because he was in our school escorting a field rep from a local senator's office). I emailed him back in addition to responding in person.
Today has come and gone with no sign of him. Not even a call or email saying he wasn't able to come. I feel incredibly disrespected and disappointed at the same time. I was genuinely excited for him to come and spend a morning with my kids and me. If the shoe was on the other foot, I would have been fired on the spot despite being tenured.
If you made it this far, you deserve a cookie or an invitation to our "Manners Tea" tomorrow (our theme this week has been good manners, so we plan to practice it with a tea party).

***UPDATE***
I emailed him saying that we missed him today and that the kids had been excited to meet him since I had told them he was supposed to join us. Here is the response I got:
I do apologize! Unfortunately, I had to address unexpected issues that developed concerning the development of new voting districts based on the results of the most recent census.
I had requested a call be placed to you regarding this change of plans to my schedule. Nonetheless, I am sorry you never received word of the change or for some reason the call was never made. Please know It is never my intent to intentionally avoid a commitment or disappoint faculty, staff or students by being a "no show."
Therefore, I am making arrangements to join you tomorrow morning from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Once again, I do apologize!
Apparently, his newly promoted assistant isn't doing her job properly
I'm anxious to see if he shows now.
