Crime Drama Pet Peeve

Koreans seem to love crime dramas as that is the only English TV we seem to get...CSI, Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Law and Order..you name it, its on...All the time.

Anyway, my biggest pet peeve with these shows is when they have an episode where one of the main characters gets kidnapped, attacked, whatever. Basically I hate it when the episode is about one of their personal lives. I just want them to find a body, solve the case. That is pretty much all I expect from these shows.

I hate that too. I really don't care about the characters' personal lives one bit on a show like that!

Ah, Law and Order, how I miss it. On the advice of MintChocoChip I watched it in the evenings while studying for the NY bar exam. I miss it now. We get all of the CSIs, NCIS, and Law and Order SVU, but not the original.

And it worked! Am i the only one who likes the personal stuff? It makes the story less cookie cutter. Otherwise the plot goes: find a body, come up with a suspect through some ridiculously convoluted story, accuse someone of being a child molester (Im looking at you Stabler!), forget to get the DA evidence, almost get case dismissed, then you're left with some unsatisfying ending because of unjust bureaucracy and violence in society.

I agree. Mentalist would get very cookie-cutter if there wasn't the team dynamics going on all the time. I really only watch it for the characters. Ditto with Psych.

I think Criminal Minds usually manages to come up with interesting enough plots that they don't need to spend as much time on the personal stuff. This thing they're setting up with Reed and the headaches is kind of annoying me. Maybe I should tell my friend on the writing staff to knock it off!

As for the CSIs and Law & Orders, I never really watch any of them.
