Poll about home parties

How many have you been invited to in the last month?

Which ones were they?

Were you asked to host a home party for someone in the past six months?

Are you annoyed/would you be annoyed when/if you are asked to host a party?

I'm on home party overload the past couple of months, so I just thought I'd see if I were alone or if there were any people that have had the same experience.

Re: Poll about home parties

  • I am going to be way overly honest here. Home parties absolutely annoy me. I get that it is a business and a way for some people to make money - no problem.  But what annoys me is that when people ask you to have a party and you say no and they get all p!ssy with you about it.

But, yes, I have been invited to quite a few home parties in the past six months.

Yes, I have been asked to host a home party.  And yes I was annoyed to be asked.

  • I don't even know what a home party is. *blush*

Pampered chef, mary kay, arbonne - those types of things

  • I am over home parties right now too and I have agreed to host two in the next two months.  Bleck!!!!  I have been invited to probably 10 already this year and I hate to even invite people to the ones that I am hosting....  I just couldn't say no.  At least one of them is one I don't see too often, 31.
  • I've only been personally invited to one in the last 7 years (not counting people on Facebook who send blast messages.) Crazy, huh? BTW, sending me blast invites on Facebook is a good way to get yourself hidden, as is making most of your status updates about your home party business. Smile

That said, I don't mind being asked to go to parties, and (from my very limited experience) don't mind actually going because I've never bought anything at one and have no problem saying "no" no matter how hard the sales pitch is. They just don't sell anything at any of those parties that I want. But if you want me to drink your wine and eat your food so you can get a discount for head count, more power to you :)

I do hate the pitches to sell/join/host, especially if I've already politely said "no" once.

  • Never been to a home party. Never been invited to a home party. Never been asked to host one either...

Man, I must be really lame. :)

Which ones were they? Pampered Chef

Were you asked to host a home party for someone in the past six months? No, thank god, because I never do. I will do a book party occasionally.

Are you annoyed/would you be annoyed when/if you are asked to host a party? Yes I get annoyed when I politely tell them no and they keep asking.

  • How many have you been invited to in the last month?  I think 2.Which ones were they?  Pampered Chef and Pure Romance. Were you asked to host a home party for someone in the past six months?  No, but I've been asked a few times in the past year or so.Are you annoyed/would you be annoyed when/if you are asked to host a party?  Yes because we all know that hosting a party is an option, so it annoys me to be asked--if I want to host one I'll let YOU (the person selling the stuff) know.
I understand that these businesses are a good way for people to make some extra money, but I HATE when the person turns every friendly conversation into an attempt to sell something.  I have a former coworker who's now selling some weight loss supplement and some coworkers and I saw her this summer for the first time in TWO YEARS.  The first thing she does is try to sell her sh!t.  Seriously?!  That's effing annoying. On the other hand, I have a coworker who sells Scentsy and she's not annoying about it at all.  When a new catalog comes out she puts one in the lounge and we all know she sells it so when/if we want something we let her know but she never brings up her business or tries to get us to book parties or anything.   I've actually bought several things from her because she's not pushy about it so I don't mind giving her my business and $$.

I've never heard of 31, what is it?
  • Lo and behold, I got a fb invite last night to a home party.  This is from someone I barely know (she is the wife of one of my good buds from high school). She is sweet enough but....??????  RANDOM.

With that being said, the stuff looks really cute....

  • I am so glad none of my friends do this shizz.

The only invites I've gotten recently have been via FB and people I haven't seen in forever.

That said, the Pure Romance (or whatever) party I went to was lots of fun and I would do that again.

  • I don't like pressure. I've been invited to a few and have never gone. I will buy your things if it is of general interest to me (Scentsy, Mary Kay) but please don't ask me about becoming a member of your team or helping... my friend did last month and it was super awkward.

  • I've been invited to quite a few. I go to some, but not many, mainly because if I need the said item, I will ask a person who sells it. If I don't need it, I won't buy it.

If any of you host a Stella & Dot party though, let me know. Their stuff is adorable, and I don't mind looking for an excuse to buy something of theirs.

  • I've gotten invited to a ton of them and I am getting worn out on them.  I have been asked to host several times.  I seriously am about to block everyone who sells something because it's so overwhelming.

In the past week, one of my FB friends invited me to THREE parties she's hosting.  THREE.  That's just her!  I'm like OMG...lay off it.  If I have extra cash and need a product, I'll contact you.  Otherwise, please stop harassing me.  Another friend asked me to host for her (stella and dot) and after I told her no, she said well we can always do it this next month.  I said no again, and she said well what about September?  NO. No. no no no no nooooo.

  • So note to self... Don't invite Boymom.. Gotcha!   ;)

Jamie, 31 sells  lot of bags and baskets.  I actually like a couple of things.  I also just bought a pack of 31 cards (various greeting cards, mostly blank) for $31.  They looked cute enough and were cheaper than I can buy at Target last minute...  that is how I justified that purchase.  :)

  • I haven't gone to any in a long time. I went to one 8 years ago in college and then 6 years ago in Omaha. I think it was Mary Kay and Arrbone.,
  • I haven't been invited to any in a long time (other than mass invites via facebook which I categorically ignore).  I haaaaaatttteeee being invited to them and pretty much refuse to be a hostess.  I always feel pressured into buying some overpriced crap that I don't want or need because I feel badly for the hostess / vendor.

I would've bought the cards too--$1.00/card is cheap!  Plus, that's something I would actually use. Smile

31 has some really cute and useful stuff.  I wouldn't mind being invited to that party. :)  I also like Pampered Chef a lot--I love new kitchen gadgets.  I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't mind being invited, but if I get asked to host again I'm going to keel over.
