I was wondering how you organize/store your baking supplies and tools (small things like cookie/fondant cutters, pastry bags, dyes, etc., but also such things as bench scrapers, small spatulas, stand mixer attachments, cake pans, etc.) Do you keep it all on a separate shelf in a cabinet? Do you have it in a container in another area? Do you just keep it together with the rest of your kitchen stuff?
I don't have much space in my kitchen, and the items I use for baking are getting all mixed up with my other things, and it's all getting very cluttered. I'm trying to find an alternate way to store this stuff, so that it's easy to get to, and doesn't get in the way of the other kitchen utensils. Can anyone give me some ideas?
Re: ***Bakers/Cake Decorators, come in***
Mine is kind of scattered, as well, although, I don't have much stuff. I try to keep my icing tips in a ziploc so they don't get lost. I keep my icing bags and tips and cutters all in one drawer (but there are other random things in there, too - rolling pin, hand towels, etc.). I only have 1 specialty pan, and that is just in my pan cabinet. My food coloring gels are in the pantry. Little spatulas, etc, are just in the utensil drawer, since sometimes I use them for other things.
Do you think you can get a small rubbermaid container to keep everything in and keep it in a cabinet or the pantry?
Here is how mine are stored. I keep trying to think of a better way to arrange things so they don't take up as much space, but I haven't figured out another system yet.
I have a cabinet that is just decorating supplies. I keep everything in either shoebox or 1/2 shoebox size containers, except my fondant tools and cookie cutters. Gel colors are in a 1/2 size and all of my piping tips and bags are in a full size. I have another shoebox full of cupcake wrappers and misc. supplies and another full of candy making supplies. Fondant tools are stored all together, as are cookie cutters. (Those containers are a bit bigger.) Cake pans are in a drawer under the oven. Mixer attachments are in a box in a top cabinet, with Cuisinart attachments. Off set spatulas and scrapers, etc. are in one of two drawers that are fitted with small baskets.
I keep my utensils (spatulas, measuring cups & spoons) in my utensil drawer with all of my other cooking stuff.
My cookie cutters are in a glass canister in my pantry and so are my cupcake liners, food dye, piping bags and tips. My wet measuring cups are in a cabinet by my bake ware (casserole dishes and whatnot).
My Kitchenaid mixer is kept out on the counter because I use it to much and I hate dragging it out of a bottom cabinet every time.
When I have more drawer/cabinet space I would like to keep them all in more of a centralized area but for now they are scattered around the kitchen.
My stuff is everywhere! I do have the luxury of being able to take over closets though! I keep the pans I use the most (6-8-10) in a cabinet in the kitchen. I keep all other pans (12, 14, 5, 7, 9) in the guest room closet. I put a 3 shelf unit in the guest room and that holds: pans detalied above, cookie cutters (grouped by tpe in ziplocks and then in 2 fabric bins), my leveler, cupcake and cake boxes/carriers, cake boards, ribbon, glue gun and other random stuff.
In the hall closet I have a rolling 3 drawer cart that has mostly fondant tools and in the pantry I have a rubbermaid container with fondant and some random stuff. I have a Wilton caddy (looks like a tackle box) where I keep tips, the Wilton gel colors I have (not many anymore. I do like their Golden Yellow though) and some other smaller tools (ruler, protractor, strip cutters that I don't really use anymore...).
I keep my airbrush machine in a cabinet under the island along with the airbrush colors and the rest of my gel colors (mostly Americolor).
Spatulas, the rotary pasta cutter I use, bench scraper are in a drawer in the island, but they are mixed in with other kitchen stuff.
I guess I can mention the KA mixer and pasta attachment since I use those all the time for fondant. Mixer sits on the counter and the pasta attachment is in the same cabinet as my airbrush.
I have taken over the house, pretty much!
Mine is also everywhere. I keep my tips, colors, couplers and other small stuff in this:
I also have the tacklebox looking caddy that keeps some of my lesser used tools. It says in a cabinet with my turntable and leveling saw.
My cookie cutters are in a rubbermaid container in another cabinet. My spatulas are in a drawer with other utemsils. And my cake pans are all together in a different cabinet.
We're watching for a price drop in a house here in Pearland that has a cute little guest house with a full kitchen. If we're able to get it, I'll be able to devote the guest house kitchen to be "my baking kitchen". I *really* hope it works out because my cake stuff is taking over this kitchen.
That sounds amazing! I dream of having a kitchen solely for my baking stuff.
