Part time job interview

A little background. I have been unemployed for about one month. I left a job that was making me miserable and the last few weeks were the worst. No sleep, no appetite, sick, ect.  I left on good terms and not to worried about bills b/c dh covers most of them and we have a bit of a cushion.  I was working for the same company for 11 years right out of college so I am very new to interviewing and trying to quickly catch up. Honestly I thought with my experience many of the companies I applied for would have called me back by now but this has not happened. I have applied for about 12 jobs. I am really interested in 4 of the 12 but I have not heard back from ANY of them and 2 of the 4 are no longer listed on website so they are probably not available.

Today I decided to apply for a serving postion at this really nice restaurant. I would be able to make enough to cover our bills with about 20-30 hours. I am really starting to think this maybe the best option for me for a few months until I figure out what I would like to do. Tomorrow I have a interview at the restaurant. I am concerned about my interview tomorrow. I know they are going to ask me if I am looking for full time work and really I am but if I tell them this they may not hire me. I would like to tell them that if hired on somewhere full time I would stay on a few shifts but I am not sure this would be an option. I know with the 2 full time jobs I want working a part time job will not be possible. DH thinks I should lie and tell them I have no immediate plans to apply for full time work but I hate to lie, really really hate to lie. Thoughts????

Re: Part time job interview

  • Pretend you are a politician & don't answer the question directly.  Instead say something like "this opportunity suits my current needs & I would like to work for you as _________ because . . . "
