Screw You, Hurricane Irene
So, my dad--yup, the same one who's never left North America--is scheduled to fly through New York tomorrow. You know, him and Hurricane Irene.
Delta offered him a free transfer to fly through Atlanta instead, but with a five hour layover (gross)--and of course there's no guarantee that the storm won't shift and strand him there.
I am so. Pissed.
Did I mention two family members and one friend had to cancel or lose days here because of the Ash Cloud?
ETA: Edited for confusing wording.
Re: Screw You, Hurricane Irene
::bad lurker crawling back in here ::
Irene shouldn't impact the Atlanta airport at all and for all the European flights, they should be able to route around any weather off the east coast.
Let me know if you want any additional info on flights.
He has not taken the re-route through Atlanta, so he is still flying through NYC.

JFK still looks okay for weather, no strong winds or rains for today. Shouldn't be a problem for the flights to go through there. But where is he flying in from?
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Thanks for the reassurance, ladies. I'm really hoping so. He's flying from Columbus, OH, so definitely no weather there.
He's flying Delta, operated on CMH-->JFK by Chautauqua Airlines, so I'm not sure where his plane will be coming from. I'm also hoping Delta won't decide last minute not to fly more planes in NYC or something.
DH keeps telling me I can't control it, which I know, but I can't help feeling that I want my dad's trip to go smoothly. I worry that if there's something that doesn't go as planned, he will cancel the whole thing, or he will decide coming to Europe isn't worth it.
He leaves JFK Friday (today) and lands Saturday in London.
I can't see where the Chautauqua flight comes from but all the CMH-JFK flights are on time. And if it makes you feel better..there's no weather between the two cities and JFK has decent weather so air traffic should flow in there nicely.
He's going to be totally fine for his flights.
*hope this isn't too much info... I have to look at this stuff all day long for work so I thought I would share.
Thanks. I've been checking delta.com and flightstats etc pretty compulsively, but it's good to know that your sources also confirm that things are a go. I will feel so much better once I know he's en route.
