Pet Peeves

And just to balance that previous post, what are your pet peeves?  This morning I nearly got out of my car and shoved the cigarette butt back in the window of the girl in front of me. I HATE that. Out of all types of litter and driving actions, that is the one that flips my B$#@ switch. Seriously - just because it's small doesn't make it any less gross. One day I'll actually get the guts to do it.

What's yours?

Re: Pet Peeves

  • Oh my goodness, I think I have too many to count. Perhaps I am wound a little too tightly, but most things that happens in the general public irritate me.

I think the biggest thing is that people have lost the ability to be courteous to one another. Whether it's holding the door open for someone right behind you, to not talking on your cell phone while you're waiting in line at the grocery store, to driving erratically so you can get 10 feet in front of me faster.

I think I've just had a bad week and need a beer, stat!

  • I'll drink to that.  I had a driving incident where a guy cut me off over 2 weeks ago and I am still worked up about it. He had the nerve to flip me off and curse me out while he was beside me and in front of me. Let it go dude - you cut me off....Oh god I'm starting again.  Yup- vodka sounds good right about now....

  • Living in California, I have a slew of traffic-related pet peeves!  I just think that when you have a 4 hour long rush hour with stand-still gridlock on a daily basis, everyone needs to follow the rules to move things along.

Turn signals.  I'm not psychic.  Use them.

People who stop on the yellow.  We have way too much traffic to do that!

Driving in non-lanes.  The lanes have lines.  You drive between those, not on them.  Other things that are not lanes include shoulders, dividers, sidewalks, parking spaces, and bike lanes.

Foolishly dangerous turns.  You are allowed to turn right on red, but that doesn't mean you can do it from the middle lane or across 6 lanes of traffic (yes, I've seen both many times).

Driving slowly on the highway.  I think people should never ever drive faster than they feel comfortable with... BUT, the left lane is not for slow traffic.  There's a sign saying so.

People who jump stop signs and metering lights.

People who park in the handicapped spot for "just a second."

Can you tell traffic was bad today?

  • I am not an aggressive enough driver to survive in CA. I hate bad traffic more than anything I guess. It's actually why I am having such a hard time with where we live.  I despise my hour commute each way. What a waste of breath.  I don't even want to calculate how much time out of my life it is sucking.

  • Yes, the traffic is a huge drawback of living here.  California has a lot of good points, but I would say the cons are traffic and cost.

An hour each way here is about the norm.  And if you're lucky enough to live near a train, it's much more painless.  I worked with a guy who had a 2 1/2 hour commute each way... people are willing to do it because the housing gets cheaper further away.

When I lived in LA I felt like crossing myself every time I got on an on-ramp because the traffic is so wild.  People drive like it's a competitive free-for-all, and you have to drive so aggressively just to move forward!  It's better here, but it's still not pleasant

[Again YESS!! Lol. I have had near misses with bad accidents thanks to slow highway drivers. AND in my state is seems like *everyone* uses the left lane for slow driving. The worst is when two cars will just be driving at the SAME speed in both the right and left lane, right next to each other... forever... blocking traffic... and never moving.]

  • Bad drivers and slow drivers.  I grew up in Houston where driving in traffic is almost  like driving in a NASCAR race.  When I moved up to Fort Worth last year I found that these people do not drive well at all!  Big pet peeve is when someone cuts you off on the freeway and then slows down.  I know they can't hear me yelling at them, but I feel better. ;o)
