who listens to hip hop/rap?
I need some songs that could be applied to a school theme. It'll be edits from songs so don't worry to much about lyrics. My music guy can do wonders..
Re: who listens to hip hop/rap?
does it have to be current? if not i really like when people pull out some old beastie boys or fresh prince and dj jazzy jeff and give it a fresh flavor. eta - i dont know if you ever do heavy subjects or interpretive dance but Eminem and Rihanna sing Love the way you Lie and it is bone chilling. i think the combo of her melody and his rapping could make for some killer transitions between hip hop moves and ballet. the song is about an abusive relationship and while we dont like to think of those we do see thst in HS. on the interpretive side, it could also be about girl drama and bullying. Mean girls have the power to make the fringe girls want desperately to be just like them and then slap them down when they arent looking, only to apologize and make nice for a while and then slam the girl again in some humiliating way like on FB or a slam notebook. if you could build those elements into a dance i would love to come see it performed!

not current but Mary J Blige is awesome and her No More drama could also be used to combine ballet and hip hop.
she and Pharrell are collaborating right now. i cant imagine that song wont be killer. it is called The Queen is back and i havent found any lyrics yet but i would stay on top of that one if i were you.

dont forget eminem's one shot, or whatever it is called, especially if you are doing a medley.
"you only get one shot do not miss your chance to blow cause opportunity comes once in a lifetime."

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I didn't know you were open to Weird Al.
(Searches recesses of mind for Weird Al hip hop remakes).
I have the White and Nerdy Album, the title song could be hilarious and is a remake of Chamillionaire's Ridin' Dirty.
On apocalypse check out "Another Tattoo" which is a remix of Bruno Mars' "Ain't got nothin on you, baby" and makes fun of having too many tattoos...

The polka song, Polkarama! on that album is also hilarious. At the end is a polka spin on 50 cent's Candy Shop, Snoop Dog's Drop it like it's hot, Pon De Replay by Rihanna, & Gold Digger by Kanye West.
Then Weird Al's Poodle Hat has a remake of that One Shot song by Eminem (actually titled Lose Yourself) called Couch Potato which is pretty funny - watching too much TV.

I know this isn't considered true hip hop but they are new and clean and young and being represented by one of the bigger hip hop labels... :-)
