How did you get started in your career?
I am looking to start my career after staying at home with my lo for a year. I am currerntly working on my Masters degree,and although I have my BS and two student interns. Now that im looking for work the jobs I feel I qualify for state that I dont have direct experience in the field. How do I get experience if I cant get hired?
I am looking to go into the Social Service field, if anyone has any suggestions on how to break through please let me know.

Have you actually applied for these jobs, or are you just assuming they won't hire you? Do you mean you supervise interns, or you did 2 internships? To me either one indicates you have some experience. Or am I missing something?
Also, you may want to make your username something other than your personal e-mail address. There are some seriously crazy people on the Internet.
Oh, and to answer your question, I applied for a job in my field and they took a chance on me.

When I wanted an Accounting job I contacted my parents CPA and asked if he would hire me. I knew literally nothing and had just started Accounting courses in college. Best.job.ever. If you do not know anyone in the field just apply for jobs. Sometimes companies like new grads or you can start off with an internship. If you have already done 2 internships then you would have experience right?
I will change my username now, your the second person to tell me, I just forgot. But yes I am applying everywhere I see, even i I know I may not qualifiy hoping someone takes a chances on me. I am in the fayetteville/fort bragg nc area and am not finding much, but Im thinking I am looking in the wrong places. I will looking into the volunteering,its just really hard because its just me and my husband, no family to help. we really cant afford a babysitter or childcare, thats why i looking to go back to work. : (

Same for me; I applied for a job I wanted, one I didn't actually think I was qualified for, TBH, and they hired me. Later my boss said the other candidate had more experience, but he liked me more and got a better vibe from me. Before that, I did some freelance work (you can't really volunteer in journalism, but you can intern and freelance, which I did.)
That was a few years ago, though, and the market was different. I'm not sure I would have even gotten an interview today (but maybe.) Be persistent; it's a tough market.

i don't know that you can change your screenname - I think you will have to create a new one altogether.
