Stewart Beach vs. Surfside Beach
I was wondering if anyone had been to both recently and could recommend which one would be better to go go with small kids (18mts and 3 years). Do both have restrooms? Can you take your own tarp/tent or do you have to rent theirs? I would appreciate any info you may have.
Thanks.
Re: Stewart Beach vs. Surfside Beach
stewart is very family oriented.
surfside is less people from what i remember... but i haven't been lately. only to galveston's east beach- and well it's so hot not many people were there anyway (itw as the middle of a weekday)
stewart for sure has restrooms, you can rent or bring your own tents.GL !
We went to Surfside last year and drove down the beach to find a less crowded spot. I don't remember there being restrooms, umbrellas, etc. But maybe there's a public area that I didn't see.
Stewart is a very public, family type beach. Many more activities and restaurants around Stewart.
I've never been to Surfside beach so I can't comment on that one.
I usually go to Stewart beach because it has restrooms. It's been a couple of years since I last went but from what I recall (unless it's changed) you can NOT bring your own tent/umbrella. They will ask you to take it down and tell you that you can rent theirs and I don't remember the price but it wasn't very cheap.
oops. just saw ^^^
it says the same thing on the east beach webpage. i've taken my own umbrella and had no problems... so guess hit or miss. i know you can't take ur own tent and pop it up next to the water at any of the beaches though.
rentals are usually between 20-35 bucks.
I'm confused by this... I see people on the beach with their own pop-up tents all the time... the beaches in Texas are open to the public, I would not have thought this was a problem?
i'm thinking about the tailgate type tents not the camping kind? on certain beaches, you can't just drive up to the beach. tehre is a a certain place you can park. but at a certain point they wont let you take your tent up to the water...
i'm not beach patrol or anything. i also said i've taken my own umbrella and apparently some people have had issues with that. guesss just depends on the enforcement of the rules.
We went to Stewart this summer when it wasn't billion degrees and took our own tent and no one said a word. Everyone had tents and umbrellas. There were the ones you could rent but they didn't make you.
I like that Stewart has showers (outside), but I think the bathroom is always hot and stinky. Man do they need some ventilation in there.
We always bring a pop up canopy or an umbrella to surfside. I am not sure if the park at the jetty has re opened since Ike or not, I know there were restrooms there.
