Any updates on Boston gtg?

I talked to DH and he is totally ok with me going for the weekend which is sooo exciting!!  I am going to be bringing my sister with me (the good one of course) which eased his mind.  He still thinks that this whole Knot to Nest thing is weird (he just doesn't get it) so that is why he was a little leary about it.

But anyway, I was wondering if we knew of any hotels we were looking into or anything.  Not sure if it is being discussed in email since I am not in the email group so wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything.

  • I've been wondering too. I need to start looking for plane tickets but for some reason want to know I'll have a place to stay first. It has not been discussed on the email group.
  • We should definitely start planning!

  • I am starting a "Boston fund" for myself so that I have money to spend while there!  I will check with my job again for room rates but I know last time there weren't too many places with available employee rates.

  • I just quickly looked on expedia for hotels for our dates and holy money. Rates are easily $300+ per night.

They are probably banking on the Red Sox's being in the post season...I think October is around when it starts??? Becky might be able to confirm this.

Oooh.  I didn't even think about that!

  • I found the Aloft Lexington for an employee rate of 83 per night but now sure how far it is from Boston.  I may be able to get a few rooms there.  I will have to find out through my HR dept.

Lexington is probably a good 20-30 minutes from points in the city.  Unfortunately, rates in the city are going to be high.

  • Since I don't know the area, what are some areas outside downtown that are close enough and near public transit to look for cheaper rates?
  • It's always going to be expensive in Boston, especially downtown.

Last time Pat and I stayed at a really nice Hampton Inn about a 5 minute walk to the T and had free parking.  It was $179/night.  We were VERY pleased with this hotel and said we'd for sure stay there again.

Here's the link to the location.  You can walk to the science museum and duck tours from there and the T is a quick walk, which will take you everywhere.

  • Jaime has the right idea.  If you're going to stay outside the city, Cambridge is your best bet.  It's still practically the city and it's so easy to get in from there.

Yes, it is right in the middle of the playoffs.  That's the reason why I have to wait to decide, because  we have tickets if the Phillies make it for either Fri or Sun, so I don't know what half of the weekend I can make it up.

  • Ok, if I have the weekend correct in my head, the Red Sox are probably assuming they'll make it to that round and will either have Thurs and maybe Sun games, or a Sat game.  Unless someone sweeps, in which case there will be no games that weekend.

There's a Marriott right by where I work in Kendall Square and the Red Line T stop is right there. Boston Common is two stops down the line (Park St. stop - just a couple minutes).

  • Maybe one of us can call to see if they will give us a special rate if we book so many rooms?  Or call a couple of different places.  I am willing to share a room between me, my sister and anyone else.  My sister and I could always share a bed.
