Those who will be hit by the hurricane

How flipping nervous are you?

Honestly, I'm scared out of my mind.  I really hope they are wrong about this.

Re: Those who will be hit by the hurricane

  • we are supposed to get rain and substantial winds -- I'm not worried at all, I was around when Hurricane Hugo which was a category 4 when it hit Charleston Sep 22, 89

i will stock up on soda and pizza -- dogs have food and we have clean underwear !

  • Right now it's projected to be a CAT 1 or 2 at landfall (if the eye even makes landfall), which is not bad at all! CAT 4 & 5 = scary and run for the hills!

Just stock up on lots and lots of water, canned goods, TP, flashlight, batteries, etc just in case you lose power.

You'll be fine though! How close to the coast are you? I'm about 45 min inland and the difference in a hurricane here vs my parents house, which is 5 min inland is insane! We actually got a few bands of the storm today with some serious wind and rain.

ETA: there's also a huge difference in where it lands. During Hurricane Andrew, Miami got destroyed. We lived an hour North and were barely affected.

Clean underwear is a very good call :)

  • Just had another thought.... if you guys do get hit, that would be super crazy! I mean, how likely is it for the NE to get hit by an earthquake and a hurricane within like a week of each other?!

This! And I'm hoping it doesn't hit us and acting like it's not a big deal.
  • We'll move everything in the backyard/deck to the garage, but I'm mostly worried about my car & tree branches.  Other than that, no big deal; I lived through Floyd & actually had court both days of it.

It's good to know you can be pretty close to the storm and still not hit as bad.  I already went to the store to get three more cases of water and we have all our batteries, candles and matches together.

  • Oh and I'm not that close to the coast at all!

    Just in panic mode!

  • Eh, I'm kinda chill. I want to see how it hits tomorrow and then maybe get nervous. H got a bunch of batteries, water, non perishables, etc etc.

And laundry is done so I have plenty of clean unmentionables.

    :p

see - I knew I wasn't the only one who thought like this !!

  • I'm not worried. We're actually staying at my parents house this weekend, and they are stacked up on everything. My parents are throwing a bday party for my brother tomorrow afternoon, so we're all hoping that it doesn't hit to either late Saturday or Sunday morning.

    I know, right? Craziness!

DH always has his ICSH bag packed. I bottled up some water last night. We have plenty of food for Jade (full 35 lb bag), canned food for us, etc. I am hoping it is just some rain and that no one gets hurt or has damage to their home.

  • Don't be nervous ladies! Hunkering down for hurricanes was always fun when I lived in FL. A few days off work/school, and I went to my fair share of hurricane parties in college. Dumb, yes, but fun!

As long as your stocked up on stuff, it's just riding it out until it's over.

Yeah, you're pretty far west. You'll be fine!

    It's the apocalypse!
  • Right now, I'm trying not to stress over it, but it's not working very well.  We have 3 cases of water, canned food, bread, candles and a few other necessities.  D did laundry this morning and I'll do some tonight.

We're about 40 miles from NYC (by the way of the crow) but about 5 or 6 miles from the coast.  My office on the other hand is right on the coast, so let's see if we have power to go to work on monday.

  • I'm going to just put this request out there now....

You ladies please be sure to check in as often as you can over the weekend.

  • Our governor is freakin' me out. I know he's really talking about the coast and is making it sound worse so people evacuate now and don't cause bottlenecks tomorrow, but man, he makes it sound DIRE.
  • I'm with Jenny!  You ladies check in when/if you can.  You are all always welcome in Texas.  You don't have to worry about rain of any kind here - just miserable heat!
