Who are the Nesties that know a lot about DSM?
We are planning a roadtrip with some friends at the end of September and I'm wondering about hotels. I think we want to be downtown and Hotwire has the highest star rating (3.5) for $90 which I think isn't bad at all. Any idea what hotel that would be?
We're planning on going to El Bait Shop for sure, but I'd take other suggestions too, for eating and entertainment.

love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
DH and I just got back from an awesome trip to Des Moines this past weekend, and I love it there!
We booked our hotel through Priceline at about $100, and we ended up getting the new Hyatt Place Hotel downtown. It was very clean and quiet and very nice! The pool is small, but no one else was in it, so it was also quiet.
I love El Bait Shop and also love Court Ave Brewery... Court Ave has awesome beer and food, and is kind of like Upstream. We enjoy going to the Farmers Market on Saturdays, because it's about 6 blocks long and has everything! We ended up buying apple crisp, cookies, kettle corn, spaghetti sauce, pasta, and tons of other goodies.
We also checked out Mullets, which is a bar run by the same guys as El Bait Shop, and it was pretty cool. I like fruity drinks, so it was nice to have some island drinks there.
If the kids are going I would second living history farms.... a great way to spend an afternoon.
The hotel you mentioned might be the embassy suites. It is nice enough, and has a good continental breakfast.
There might be something good playing at the des moines play house.
