How do you get stains out of a white counter top?

Last night, my and SO and I went out to dinner and brought our drinks home with us. Apparently the cups suck because they leaked on our counter top. We have a white counter top and my soda was orange soda and he had a coke. We live in an apartment complex and if we can't clean it, we have to buy a new counter top. Any ideas for getting these stains out? Thanks in advance.

Re: How do you get stains out of a white counter top?

  • Put a rag down on top of the stain and pour straight bleach on the rag. Let it sit for a bit, checking every few minutes to see how the stain is coming out. When you're done, rinse the counter top with water.
  • Try cleaning it with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. It works for us removing stains off formica.
  • Ditto on trying the magic eraser (you'll probably have to scrub the crap out of the stain), but if you don't have a magic eraser or it doesn't work, try bleach. I think it will probably take a lot longer than a few minutes, though. Use straight bleach or a cleaning product with bleach, generously spray or poor the bleach on the stain, let it sit for a while (check periodically) until the stain is gone. I think it will probably take anywhere from 15 min to an hour (maybe even more). But I think either of those options will do the trick.

  • We have an off white formica countertop, which will soak in some liquids on occasion.

When that does happen, I use the mr. clean magic eraser with sometimes a little elbow grease...and its gone.

  • Bon Ami Cleaning Powder works amazingly well at removing stains from my white countertops.  Super fast, super easy and no harsh chemical smells.  They claim to be an environmentally friendly product... not sure how true that is, but it works great and I prefer it to working with bleach.
  • Magic eraser should do it pretty easily.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser worked. I'm so glad it was able to get the orange soda out of the counter top.
