Thankfully, we had a pretty good night. No broken windows, no flooding or leaks and no long term power outages. The power must've went off at some point while we were sleeping because the microwave time was off, but it was on by the time I woke up the first time around 1:30am.
I hope everyone is doing ok and is safe!
Re: I hope everyone is ok!
we've got 3 leaks, and thankfully that's it. i'm sure it will be plenty expensive to fix.
right now, i'm trying to cool my temper after watching all my fb friends update about what a "wussy" storm this was and blah blah blah. i guess i just feel like people should have a little more humility. just because they dodged a bullet (or don't own their home and therefore it doesn't matter) doesn't mean that everybody did.

We are okay. Didn't lose any power, I am grateful for that. I haven't been outside yet, but I hear Forest Hills has some big trees down and falling tree branches.
We haven't been out to check on our car yet, though. A bit worried, we ended up parked under a big, old oak tree, but we took the spot that we could get.
Even though we didn't need them, I am glad that we had our flashlights and batteries and non-perishables ready. Better safe than sorry. And better to expect the worst and get the best than blithely go about like nothing could touch you and then find yourself in trouble.
I don't blame you for being upset. Quite a few people that I know were down playing the storm, while I was freak'n out just a little bit. 1 of those people posted a comment on my FB page to "Calm down", well that same person is emptying her basement by the buckets full. I don't wish anything bad on anyone...but, karma is a b!tch! ooh, and so is Irene, apparently. =/
Good luck with the clean up!

Glad to see everyone is okay!
I started getting nervous, what with a newborn and all but am so glad that the worst that happened was our bedroom ceiling sprung a leak and I woke up to it raining on my butt. lolol
We just made it back home. I am so grateful for our friends that the weather held out for their wedding. It did start raining pretty hard towards the end of their reception but they were still able to have the beautiful, lakeside ceremony they planned.
Yesterday, it was raining hard! We lost power at our hotel. Luckily, they had a generator that allowed safety lights and hot water. Yay for a shower. Then we heard that they had power at the lakehouse. So we went over there to hang with a bunch of people (about 16-20). Then we lost power there. Ha! So we played games by candlelight, drank through their stash of booze, and watch the fog roll out on the lake. We then learned that the hotel got power again so we went back with a small group, ordered pizzas, and just chilled out.
H had to work today, so we left at around 4 in the butt-crack of dawn. It was a tough drive. We hit several areas where roads were closed, drove through slightly flooded area, and then had the service areas all closed due to loss of power. We made it home safely, though, and now I'm enjoying a hot coffee and H has enough time to nap before work.
Hey ladies! Glad to hear that for the most part everyone is ok. We slept in our living room (well DH slept, I could not fall asleep) and we were fully stocked and everything with batteries for our radio, flashlights, buckets of water etc.
Next morning lots of huge branches on our street but thank God the huge tree in front of our house was still standing. We never lost power. I was in touch with Mrs. Kocal and she lost power but her two trees also are still standing. Thank God.

I'm back! We lost power around 3:30am on Saturday/Sunday night, and it came back on sometime Monday morning. My entire side of the street lost it - a wire snapped (apparently on it's own - there was no tree that fell on it!) and knocked out half the block. My mom and I woke up when the power went out, because the air conditioners went off and we were sweating (my parents slept over since Dh was away for the weekend). When we woke up, we heard there was a tornado warning for our area so we stayed up and listened to the radio utnil it passed. After living through last year's tornados, I don't take those warnings lightly any more!
My neighborhood was spared most damage, but nearby Flushing lost a lot of big trees. It's likely we were ok becuase all of our weaker big trees were knocked down last year in the tornado, so the ones that were left could withstand this type of storm.
I'm glad I had two flash lights because we definitely used them! Thankfully those were the only supplies we needed. I ended up sleeping at my parents' house Sunday night, with DD, because they had power and it was just too hot and dark and boring to stay in my house by myself with the baby.
Glad everyone is ok!
I have really sh*tty internet thanks to Irene but otherwise we're perfectly fine. We even went out for a walk on Sunday.
I'm glad every one is safe!
