Hope everyone in Mid-Atlantic and Northeast....

Stays safe!  I've heard that hundreds of thousands are out of power in NC, where a bunch of my friends live.  Having lived through many hurricanes, The best thing to do is evacuate if they tell you, and to have lots of beverages on hand if you are "hunkering down." (alcoholic or otherwise.)  Smile

Re: Hope everyone in Mid-Atlantic and Northeast....

  • we are doing good here. we have power but i heard from my town's list serve that there are some outages close by. we aren't by water so we have no concerns about evacuations but i believe my h's aunt who is across the bridge had to leave. right now here it is raining hard and windy. just trying to keep everything charged in the event we lose power. we had a hurricane here about 8 years ago and i was out of power for 5 days. it was a big drag.

  • I was at a hurricane party most of the afternoon/evening. It was pretty cool b/c my friends have a covered patio with a TV mounted outside. So we sat outside from 2-9:30 eating, drinking and watching movies. A couple of us even got brave and went swimming in their pool (It was originally supposed to be a pool party). It was a lot of fun.

The storm is really kicking in now. I'm a little nervous about my neighbors towering evergreen tree out front that hasn't looked super healthy lately. The wind is really howling. Ill probably go to bed soon, but I'm thinking we might sleep in the basement.

  • We're OK here. Irene lost a lot of steam before she hit us, so it was "only" a tropical storm. We're still under advisory to not leave or drive because of severe flooding in the lower lying areas. The street outside our apartment is really messed up. Not debris or anything, it's just broken and cracked everywhere. The trees appear to be in the ground, and all cars upright. No casualties in my neighbourhood, but there are a few around. (lives and homes)
  • we're ok here. a couple nearby trees made us nervous enough to sleep downstairs. power flickered a couple times but thats it.

  • I don't know how we have power but we do!! Just about everyone else I know is with out power and will be for a couple of days! We slept in the basement last night b/c I was nervous about a couple of big trees around the house. Woke up this morning to H making breakfast like it was any other day LOL.

Hope everyone else fared as well as we did.

  • Glad to hear that everyone has come out pretty well.

And to think of little Clara having to brave a hurricane at 2 weeks old.  Those are some memories to document for her.

  • Sunday was an interresting day for us! We husstled home from Boston on Sunday morning. We spent the day home and had a lot of wind and rain. Thankfully we didn't loose any power. All of our families lost power though. We are more inland and they are all along the coast. All in all, happy there wasn't more damage done. Lots of tree branches in my yard and such. Certainly could have been worse.
