facebook spelling?

Would it majorly bother anyone else that a 5th grade teacher repeatedly misspells on her facebook status?

Examples:

spontaineous

reflexion (reflection)

adjusting to a new sight (site - she's in a new school this year)

(and this is not including the numerous typos I let slide)

Re: facebook spelling?

  • UGHHH... YES!! This would bug me terribly! It's one thing to use internet language like idk or something like that but when someone has spelled something incorrectly like that, it's obvious it's because she doesn't know it.

It also drives me crazy to see teachers who don't know how to use they're, their and there or to/too.... sigh....

  • This person is responsible for the education of children and most likely teaching them some of this vocabulary and yet cannot spell it herself?! Yeah, totally bugs me! However, I am a stickler for correct spelling and grammar. I mean come on, most computer browsers these days have spell check built in and will put a red line under misspelled words, and iPhones/iPads have autocorrect, which sometimes autocorrect sucks and changes the word, but for the most part it corrects misspellings. Misspellings (more than just a typo) and poor grammar, especially from teachers, really bother me.

  • It's more irritating to me that one of the preschool teachers I work with speaks with a very southern accent (who doesn't around here?), but makes no effort to enunciate proper sounds when explaining things to the kids.  She was talking about looking at your self in a mirror, but kept saying "What is this?  A mirra!  That's right, it's a mirra!"  Not mirror.  Mirra.  And it was made worse because we have a girl in the class whose name is Amirra.

Another time, she was reading a book called 'At Home', but kept pronouncing At as 'Et'.  'The title of the book is ET HOME.  Can you all say that?'  And, of course, the kids say 'Et Home' right back to her.

And like I said before, I understand where we live and that everyone has an accent, but I think you need to be so careful when speaking to the little ones.

(Sorry to threadjack, I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a while and this seemed like a good thread.  Facebook spelling mistakes are idiotic.  From everyone.)

I had to help out at a different daycare center today because mine is closed due to lack of power. I was in the baby room and the teacher was walking to one of the little ones like, "whats her doing? Hers just jumpin' yes her is"

Now if she had always said 'her' instead of 'she' then I would think she just didn't have the proper verbal skills but that was not the case.

As for the spelling. A mistake or two occasionally is one thing but all of the time in the world of spell check is sad.

  • I can never understand how people can spell words wrong on facebook, it gives you the little red squiggly line! I can see a type here and there, esp. if someone is on their phone, but consistently spelling things wrong is inexcusable. My step-MIL does this all.the.time. Just yesterday she spelled "sauce" "sause", come on! Then there is my friends mom is ALWAYS spells "guess" and "figure" with a Q instead of a G. At first I noticed it with just the lowercase letters, but one day she actually spelled it Quess, with a capital Q. COME ON!

A teacher spelling words like that incorrectly, just plain wrong.

  • It would bother me, mainly because spell-check is available on FB, so why wouldn't you use it? My DH teaches the 4th grade and he is not a great speller, but he always uses spell-check, and usually has me proofread stuff before he sends it out.

My young cousin always uses a Q instead of the letter G. I have never seen her use them correctly. It drives me insane. Here are two examples of her FB posts from this week:

"reeses cup ice cream and snuqqlinq uppp :]"
"im starrrrvinq. i want somethinq qood."
