quick weekend getaway?

Any suggestions for next weekend?

We're trying to check some places to visit off our list. I know it's Labor Day, so we might have trouble finding someplace to stay, but it's worth a shot. Driving distance, kid friendly, doesn't have to be the beach, not Galveston (we've been there a zillion times, we're looking for someplace new to visit.

Big fat bonus points if it's pet friendly.

  • Have you been to San Antonio lately?  I'm not sure if it is busy over Labor Day or not.  Lakes and such are where we always think of going.

  • Hyatt Lost Pines in Bastrop.  I've only been once, but I have a spa gift certificate and a NIGHT TO MYSELF there that has been waiting for me for over a year...that place is gorgeous.  Great for kids and adults.  It is super, super nice.  And only 2 hours away.  My ILs live in Bastrop so we pass by it all the time.

  • I've never been, but my sil likes the woodlands resort a lot. They often go for a weekend 'trip' with their girls.

Agree - the Gruene Mansion Inn is gorgeous and you can go to the Gruene Hall for some live music, go to the traditional General store and antique shops and (if you're prepared to brave the crowds which actually shouldn't be bad now the kids are back at school) to Schliterbahn!
