Bummer! Anyone else?

Re: Irene B&A PIPs, anyone?

  • Every time I see your back yard I get jealous--and I don't even want a huge yard to take care of! :)

Irene was, thankfully, a complete non-event for us.  We did have to go out and stake down our young Asian Pear tree because it was leaning quite a bit from the wind.  We lost one pear that got blown off, but that's the extent of the "damage."  I was sad to lose that pear though since it was one of only six I have growing this year, haha.

On my walk to the bus stop I did see one of my neighbors had a big tree branch lying on their roof though.  It didn't look like it broke through or anything though so hopefully it's just a matter of removal.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Oh no!  We didn't take any photos, but our yard is just a mess with branches.  We were lucky that none of our trees came down.  I was worried about the chickens, but they did just fine.
  • Oh no!  That's sad.  We got lucky and had no damage.  Just a few small branches in the yard.  Phew.
  • Oh so sad! I am happy to say the storm did not induce labor!
  • Aw, the poor tree! It was so pretty. Like Rock I totally envy your back yard. Wink

Luckily we didn't have any damage at our house. Just leaves and sticks. We did lose power from 7:50am to 1:10pm yesterday. I wasn't home for most of it; my friend's bachelorette party was Saturday night and I slept at her house. Somehow she didn't lose power even though just up the street one way there was a big tree across the whole road and in the other direction where were some down wires. Thankfully there was another side street that wasn't a dead end I could get to so I could get home.

  • We had a piece of siding come off the house. Luckily, it landed in the driveway right in between the two cars. It was close though!

Walking by the Common this morning there's a HUGE tree down blocking one of the paths. It's so sad to see those big old trees come down.

  • I agree that I too am jealous of your backyard.  That is a bummer about the tree, it was beautiful.

We lost a few shingles and had some water coming in through the basement door and kitchen window, but other than that, we were fine.  I win the worst wife award because I went to bed around 11:00.  The water starting coming in after that.  DH came up to check the bedroom windows and turned on the lights, waking me up (which I d not have any memory of).

    Me:  What are you doing?

DH:  Checking to make sure there is no water coming in up here.  There is water in the kitchen and basement and I trying to keep on top of it.

Me:  That's nice.  (Que snoring noise)

  • Some mulch from the play area in our apt complex washed/blew across the sidewalk, but that was about it.

  • We had a tree down and tangled in the power lines. Took out out cable (which won't be back on until Tuesday). I'll try to PIP later if I can!

  • I'm lucky we didn't lose power at all, but bummed about the yard. We are having it cleaned up tomorrow, so that will probably be quite the bill.

I can't believe no one else has any yard pictures! I didn't post any on FB, but I feel like every single post when I last logged on was a picture of a tree down haha

I'm glad everyone is safe and sound and there isn't too much damage!

  • We had a few tree branches down but nothing too bad. Once the storm passed we went out to see if there was any real damage and to see if anything was open. We lost power around 11:30 yesterday and still don't have power back. I was a little surprised about the situation with our power because we had no closed roads nearby and no power lines down. National Grid was suppose to be updating their storm central website but I haven't seen anything. I'm really hoping to get power back tonight. You kind of forget how much you rely on electricity until you don't have it. Thankfully a friend of mine nearby let me use her shower this morning.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

    True fact.

We didn't lose power or anything, but my husband walked across the Common this morning to go to work, and he said there were an awful lot of uprooted trees.

I hope you get power back soon! I can't believe how many people are still without power.

I saw pictures of that tree! It was massive, so I was impressed that it got uprooted like that.

We don't have a house - rather, an apartment in the city. There aren't many trees by us so we got off easy. No loss of power or anything. I am also shocked at how many people still don't power. Hoping it comes back soon!

  • We got it back late (7:30pm) yesterday. My husband and I both cheered when the lights turned back on again lol
