Re: **WaltzingMatilda**
Then on top of that we had quite an experience with the power. We could hear transformer boxes blowing up all over the neighborhood, but nothing beats when ours finally went. We heard what sounded like firecrackers going off and the power keep dimming with every pop. So we ran to look at the box and it was shooting off sparks. It finally blew and then everything was smoking. Then 3 of lines caught fire and set a nieghbor's yard on fire. Luckily it was pouring down rain and was put out almost immediately. But the short story is we aren't expected to get power back for at least a week. On the bright side we have a a gas hot water heater so I at least don't have to take cold showers.
And there's apparently a million people in central Virginia without power right now and it looks like we took a direct hit. There are trees down everywhere and some are actually dangling from power lines. We seriously got it way worse than our families who were much closer to the eye of the storm. We drove around a little yesterday and it looks bad out there. It's going to be a while before things are back to normal here.
Aw Liz, that's so scary! Sorry you were hit so hard! I guess I'd rather live without power than hot water, so at least you have that!!! I hope things return to normal soon for you...that's awful.
We definitely had a long, scary night (well, not hubby, just me. I was terrified) but we are fine, Thank GOD!. No damage in our neighborhood and we never lost power. Even though, I couldn't relax all weekend. I was just so afraid that the big trees behind our house would come crashing down. And the sun is shining today. What a tease. Thanks for ruining everyone's weekend, Irene.

I'm glad to hear you guys are ok! I'm sorry to hear about your car and that sucks about the power, hopefully they give a longer than expected estimate so you'll be pleasantly surprised when it comes back sooner!
Do you have a gas stove since your water heater is gas?
