East Coast Ladies (Irene check in!)

How is everyone doing?  It has been raining for hours non stop and the power has flickered on and off for a while but we still have it for now (crosses fingers), but we are hearing the worst is yet to come :(

I feel like its going to be a long night because it goes from pouring/wind howling to quiet every couple minutes.  Stay safe ladies!

  • pretty much the same, danielle.  i don't think i'm going to get any sleep tonight.  i'm afraid to go upstairs to our bedroom where we have two big windows.  hubby could care less haha

i am literally sick to my stomach with worry...be careful everyone and stay in touch!

  • Power is off again here. Thank goodness for the iPad. It keeps going in and out. It's gotten much worse here wind is going crazy!

  • Good morning! Things are normal here, looks very windy outside but not much rain, just a teensy trickle of water in the basement but nothing to even bother with. It looks like it still has to move some of the windy part through but the rain looks like it's done. Fingers crossed the power stays on, and also for you ladies who are still dealing with it!

  • We have power back now it kept going in and out every 10 or so minutes which was almost more annoying then just losing it because everything would shut off and reboot each time, we ended up just unplugging a lot of things.  I barely slept all night it was so loud and crazy!  Hope everyone else it doing ok!!

  • Hey ladies!  I'm pretty sure the storm is over for us now.  What a scary night!  Strong wind, heavy rain, and I was just praying the whole time that big trees didn't come down on our house!  I managed to sleep a little, hubby kept me calm, which I needed.  My parents (who were in Zone A of NYC) evacuated to my aunt's house, and my dad returned home to find water in the basement.  I feel so bad :(

    Hope everyone's alright!

  • Good morning from Massachusetts! So far its just heavy rain with some wind. I just talked to my parents and everything is fine there as well. However, we apparently haven't gotten the worst of it yet :(
  • Glad to hear everyone has survived with little to no damage.  You are all still in my thoughts and prayers.

  • We got lots of rain (I think 5 inches or so) and lots of winds....rain is gone, but it's still really windy. We never lost power, but a lot of people in the area did. Hope you ladies who are closer to the coast made it out ok!

  • My town was under evacuation so we ended up going to our friend's mom's house yesterday afternoon with the three cats in tow. We lost power here over night and it hasn't come back. Apparently Hoboken still has bad flooding and most people dont have power. Our friend who lives 2 buildings down from us just got her power back do we are hopping that's a good sign. We are planning to go back home tomorrow morning sine the flooding should be less by then. Keep your fingers crossed that we have power since I have a ton of work to do. I think we will be tossing a lot of food in the fridge but it could have been much worse.

  • Hey, I hope that everyone made it through ok.  We did really well, we never even lost power, even though most of the people on the peninsula that I live on did.  A neighbor about 5 houses down had a tree go through their roof, as did a few other friends that live near by.  An 11 year old was killed in my city when  tree went through his roof.

We did not have any flooding, so that was great.  The place that I live installed some new draining systems a few years ago, which really helped out a lot.   Back at work now, with out AC.  The ground floor at work did flood a lot, but my building is right on the water, so that is not a surprise at all.

  • Hi Everyone!

We got slammed here in Orange County NY. Not so much with the wind but with the flooding. A few roads washed out completely, and my room at my parents is flooded. DH got up to use the bathroom at 6:00 yesterday AM and said the carpet was squishy. I thought he was kidding but he was not! There were a few inches in there at that point.

We pulled out everything yesterday and the carpet is ripped up and out back drying right now. Ill post some pictures later.

Right now I am kind of stuck in my town. The NYS thruway is closed in either direction at my exit, and all other side roads that would allow DH to get to work are flooded as well. Even the minor highways and roads that lead to other towns are still completely flooded.

Thankfully we have power at the moment, so I am going to sit tight, get some work done, and get my room dried out! Will check in with everyone later!
