I'm hosting a baby shower for my sister and want to have a table for the guests to make headbands and tutus for the baby. Since I am the opposite of girly this is out of my area of expertise. Help?
1. where is the best (cheapest) place to get materials? Craft stores bring out the monster in my children. I don't know why but I need to know exactly where to go instead of running from store to store. lol! (I've got 2 weeks, so I could order online also.)
2. what do I need?
-- I assume: some kind of elastic for both. Flowers, jewels, felt??, needles, thread, hot glue/gun? Ribbon and tulle
Other ideas?
Any tips/tricks/things to watch out for?
My sis is a girly girl and I'm trying to embrace it. lol!
Re: headbands and tutus
You will need quite a bit of tulle if you want the tutus to look full.
Hobby lobby has the wide head bands for $1ish (might be a little cheaper, like 97 cents). If I were you, i would get a few of those, alligator clips and stuff to glue onto the clips. That way, she can interchange the flowers, bows, etc.
For the tutus, I've heard these work great as the elastic. Not necessarily the non-slip kind, I imagine any brand will work, this is just the first pic I found.
Are you doing the "tie" tutus? You might grab a pair of pinking shears (zig-zag scissors) for an added "effect" on the tulle.
Try fabric.com for the material if you still have time to order online. I got fleece from them last Christmas at half the price of what I could find it in any stores (it was the sports teams patterns) and even with shipping I saved a lot of money.
Also, if you have time to just pop into JoAnn's once they usually have a flier by the front door and they have coupons so you can be prepared if you decide to go back there for any supplies.
Sounds like fun and a great idea! Have fun!
FYI- I was just at Dollar General yesterday, and they have the headbands, like in the above picture WAY cheaper than Walmart/Target. I use them for running, and just bought a pack, wish I would have realized DG had them cheaper.
LOL
Also I THINK I saw some of the other stuff you'd need for it. BUT I am just seeing this post today. Also Dollar Tree might have the wider, baby headband thing for the flowers.
GL! Sounds like a fun idea for a shower!
another idea that may save you some $ on materials is to do onesies instead of tutus. while not a mom yet, i would think she will get more use out of them than tutus? maybe gift her a cute tutu or a couple and then have guests do onesies.
for a friends shower we bought plain white onesies and then bought stamps and the paint for stamping fabric and had a table setup for doing that. there were some very cute ones and some not so cute ones, but she got a lot of use out of them all.
we bought various stamps and 3-4 colors of paint and then onesies in each size group up to 1 year. (so a pack of newborn, 0-3, 3-6, etc)
just a thought!
It's a good thought, but... She has a ton of clothes. She gets all of my girls' clothes plus another of my friends' clothes so she's very set for onesies.
I also find that putting things on the front of onesies makes them either scratchy or hard to do tummy time with. That's just a personal thing though. I do like the idea. She was just asking where she could find a bunch of headbands, so I thought we'd stock her up. :)We probably won't do as many tutus. (I personally can't stand tutus but they're cute on other people's kids)
Great ideas everyone!
