Job-Related Anxiety Attack (long)

I'm having an extremely difficult time making a career decision. My bosses called me in on Friday to discuss hiring a new proofreader for the agency. I'm currently in a management position, but I started out in advertising as the proofreader for another, bigger agency. The truth is, while I enjoy the feeling that I've "moved up" from proofreading (I make more money now, get more respect), my heart is still in editing/proofreading. I think I'm much better suited, personality-wise, to that sort of job. I've been considering resigning from my current role, and asking for the proofing position, but I'm just not sure about it. Here's a breakdown of the two roles:

Position A (aka my current job): Pros: management-level; decent amount of office respect; good salary; have a say in every decision made by the owners of the agency; bosses think I'm doing a great job. Cons: I'm not terribly comfortable being anyone's boss; also not terribly comfortable being the bad guy, which I am often by necessity; couldn't easily work from home; rarely *feel* like I'm doing a good job.

Position B: Pros: love the job; always feel like I'm doing a great job; bosses think I'm the best; I enjoy grammar, spelling, punctuation, ensuring consistency, and being an expert on AP style - it's something I do regardless of whether it's my day job or not; this job suits my personality; could easily work from home when H and I have a LO. Cons: lower-level position; potentially less pay; less respect; less feeling of professional "success."

I've also been thinking about pitching another idea to my boss. I could be the "Editor" of the agency, and every piece of copy (the words that go into ads, brochures, websites, radio scripts, etc.) that comes out of the agency would have to run by me first. I'd proofread it, but I'd also have the power to edit as I see fit, and write a little as well. This way, I could satisfy my inner word nerd, as well as maintain my high-level status in the agency. There's probably little chance that he'd go for that, but I might see what he says. That's my latest idea. Oh, and I have to decide by tomorrow, b/c we need to hire someone asap. Can't wait until this is behind me; I could use a good night's sleep!

What would you do?
