Irene...

So how did Irene treat all of you??  No school for Baltimore County tomorrow.  Our power in HarCo went out from 11-2ish and flickered throughout the morning.

Re: Irene...

  • I am in harco and our power went out at 7am-ish and has stayed out. Seeing as the community college called a closing for tomorrow hours ago, and we are around the corner I doubt we will see power anytime soon. There are huge trees down on power lines on the other end of our street. Our yard definitely looks like a hurricane went through it. I am sick of picking up branches already. Especially since I can't shower :(
  • Power has been out since 8:00 p.m. on Saturday in Deale.  My front/back yard is flooded and DH is home dealing with the clean up efforts.  One street in my neighborhood was underwater and we have tons of downed wires/trees in southern AA county.  Rumor has it that the earliest we could be getting power is Wednesday.

I was terrified Saturday night.  Our area was hit pretty hard, as we are located right on the water.  It was terrifying having no power and hearing the winds & trees collapse/fall and having no idea what is happening outside because you can't see.  I had a sleepless night to say the least.  A tree smashed my neighbors shed and play house to pieces and a tree went through a childhood friend's home.

  • We hung out with friends as long as possible on Saturday but wanted to be home by 8pm when the hurricane was supposed to arrive... made all the necessary preparations, then nothing. Yes, wind and rain, but never lost power, so I feel like kind of a brat right now because a few people showed up to work unshowered today.

Then yesterday afternoon was gorgeous outside!

DH had to work all day yesterday though and will be working late all this week, but at least he will get overtime!

  • Our power went out around 5am Sunday and hasn't come back yet.  Luckily the hot water that was in our hot water heater lasted through showers this morning, so I hope that the power is back by tomorrow morning or I'm going to be heading to the gym to get ready for work!  I think we'll end up losing most of what's in our refrigerator.

Saturday night was scary, we slept in the den downstairs because we thought that a tree branch was going to end up snapping and breaking through our bedroom window.  Luckily that didn't happen and we ended up with only some minor damage to 1 tree, no house damage or flooding, thank God!  I drove out Sunday morning (I was one of the people who waited in line for half an hour at Dunkin Donuts for my coffee, ha ha), I saw trees down all over the neighborhood so I feel really lucky.

  • We got pretty lucky and didn't lose power. However, a lot of neighborhoods around us did. Our lights flickered a few times and the wind woke us up in the middle of the night as the storm went through but we did ok. Feeling very lucky today. Most of my family up in Har Co is still without power.

  • We began preparations Friday night. We went out to Lowe's and bought a 24ft extension ladder so that we could clean the gutters. There was water in the basement during the last bad storm because of dirty gutters Embarrassed We discovered that our gutters are put up wrong, so water pools in the center of the gutter instead of flowing to the edges. grr.

We ended up staying here instead of going to SIL's remembrance party. We figured if the house flooded we wanted to be here.

We lost power Sat at 9PM and didn't get it back until Sun at 6Pm. I was worried that I would lose my stash of frozen breastmilk, but I was able to use a friend's freezer. The tree outside of our bedroom window was thumping against our room and kept waking DH up, which woke me up. WE got up 2x during the night to empty the sump-pump pit. There was a little bit of dampness in our basement and dog 2 who HATES the rain pooped in our basement, but we expected that. We have a gas stove and hot water heater, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

  • We lost power Saturday night around midnight and it's still not on. Thankfully, I can still take hot showers because we have gas.

My car won't start due to water getting in the engine (don't ask me to give details because I know nothing about cars! I'm trusting that what DH told me is accurate). So now we have to go through the hassle of getting it towed and shelling out money for that. Fun times.

  • It was a total non-event for us.  We never lost power and didn't have any flooding or damage.

A few branches down and lots of leaves, etc. but we dodged a bullet.  A few trees in the neighborhood fell, but no damage to houses from what I saw.

This. We were far enough west that we only caught the edge of it. Wind and rain, but nothing serious thankfully.

  • We live in Hampden and haven't had power since 11:30pm Saturday night. Gladly, we have gas heat, so at least we have hot water. I don't really mind not having electricity too badly (food was my main concern, and we moved it all over to my parents), but DH is very restless, lol.

  • No damage but we lost power for about 14 hours.  Our neighborhood looks like it was barely hit so that's a good thing.  I feel like most people were pretty spared and that there was minimal damage.  I know a few people still without power buit all and all, I think that it could have been a lot worse.

  • Lots of wind and rain. Lost power from 11 p.m saturday til this morning. No major damage in my area
  • I am in SW Baltimore County, we have been without power since 11:03Pm on saturday.  We stayed in a hotel last night.  Planning ot rough it at home tonight, since I got two showers at the hotel.  Crossing my fingers we get power back today.

I am jealous of you ladies! Thank goodness our house is just fine. I can deal with the lack of power and the debris. H is on his first dump run. I think maybe ten or fifteen will be needed :-/

What area?  If you don't mind me asking, I work at an elementary school in the SW area of BaltCo and is wondering how things are over there.

  • I hope things get better for those of you with no power soon.  Thankfully we didn't have any damage.

    Do you work at Relay??

I live in Halethorpe, off Selford Road, just down from the 195 park and ride.

There are a bunch of trees down and lots of places without power.  Fortunately Walmart has power and all the stores in that area were open.

  • We are okay at home but my work did not fair well. They are stating 3 to 4 days. Which completely sucks.

Baltimore Highlands...I haven't heard anything otherwise so I will just assume we have power :)

  • We live in Aberdeen and lost power at 2am Sunday morning. I'm camped out at my Mom's for the day with DD and am not sure if the power is back on at home or not, but my hopes aren't very high. We're lucky in that we didn't have flooding, nothing fell on our house or cars, etc. A few trees were down in our neighborhood and a larger tree was down on a power line on Route 7 less than a mile from our house.

We moved the meats from our freezer to a friend's house last night but have lost all of the rest of our refrigerated and frozen food. I'm glad I did all of the dishes and laundry before the storm. Our dishwasher's full again and we're switching to paper plates and plastic cups starting tonight.

We have gas, so we have hot water and can use our stove top. We also have a grill with an almost-full tank of propane.  But we went to our friend's for dinner last night, I'm at my Mom's tonight, and now we're out of meat to cook, so we'll have to "shop" at our friend's or go to the grocery store if we're eating at home tomorrow.

DD's school didn't have power today.  DH's office does, so he's at work.

My earlier post meant to have this as a quote.  I don't know what happened.  One day without the internet and I already forgot how to use The Nest :)  (I'm at work using their internet!)

  • LoveLossHopeRepeat - FWIW, my real estate agent checked our house today.  Driving down rt 40 (from Abingdon toward HdG), power was out up until the funeral home.  Past the funeral home, the power seemed to be on, as it was at our house.

According to our neighbor, the power in our neighborhood was on during the storm, but went out around 10am yesterday.  The whole town of Aberdeen seemed to be out when we were there yesterday afternoon.

Thanks! When I left today the intersection of 543 & 7 was back up and running (it was out the night before when we drove through at 8pm), and the 7-11 and Citgo at that intersection were back up as well. A friend's Mom works at a Shop Rite and said that the one in Riverside (same intersection) got power back at noon.  All of those places are 2 miles from my house, but I'm afraid to get my hopes up!

DH is on his way to the Y in Belcamp to work out and if he gets home before I do, he's going to let me know the status. I'm going home regardless because I didn't bring supplies for us to stay at my Mom's overnight.  If it's still out when I get up and moving tomorrow, we're going to come here to stay until it's back on.
