So, how did everyone hold up?

We didn't lose power but our basement flooded (about 3-6 inches depending on where you're standing). Unfortunately, we JUST finished our basement. We got most of the water out, using a wet vac and the contractor is coming over tomorrow to see what needs to be fixed/repaired. Luckily we chose tile that's still intact but some drywall and doors may need to be replaced.

Re: So, how did everyone hold up?

  • We also did not lose power but had 4 inches of water in the basement.  Our basement is not finished and we were proactive in picking everything up off the floor the night before.  The water had been pumped out by the morning.

  • our basement remained dry and power on. a few loose pieces of siding but intact. by far for me the tornado warnings were the scariest.
  • We usually get a little water in our basement whenever it rains. It was only a little bit worse than usual with this storm. No problems with power and I slept through all of the tornado warnings!
  • We have water in the basement, which is normal when we get heavy rain...but it's more than usual.  Most of it was pushed into the sump pump hole and drained out by my lovely DH, who was awake pretty much every hour on the hour to check on it.  It's almost dry now.  We never lost power and no big tree limbs fell.  The tornado warning was definitely scary!

Our pool almost overflowed, which would have been devastating to the basement.  DH was out there draining it at 4am.

  • We made out really well. No water in basement and the roof did not have any leaking. We had power the entire time and we slept through the tornado warning. I did wake up at 3am on Sunday AM because of the driving rain against the bedroom window.

We could not get out of town yesterday if we wanted to--all bridges into Phoenixville were closed due to flooding.

We are incredibly lucky. I know there were houses on my street that were pumping water out of their basements regularly.

Right now, my biggest problem is that the Paoli/Thorndale line is suspended...so I'm at home until service returns.

  • luckily enough we got nothing.  power is on and since we are on the 7th floor- no flooding.  parking garage didn't even flood.  beach house is fine too.  ahhhhh what a relief.

good luck to all of the ladies with water in the basement!  that is no fun.

  • Water in the basement. DH was up from 12:30-5:30 am so it only spread a little bit never became inches, because he was shop vac'ing the hell out of it. Today I have to shampoo the carpets because they are damp. Fun fun!

Glad most others made out okay!

  • We lost power around 10:30 Saturday night and it didn't come back on until 11:30 yesterday morning.  Other than the fact that DH wasn't home from his fantasy draft yet when it went out, all was well in our household.  We had prepared with flashlights, bottled water and a solar powered radio (which lasted the full 13 hours we were out of power).  Since we're on the 2nd floor, the tornado warnings were extra scary but I was so exhausted I fell asleep by 12:30-1ish.

All in all, it could have been much worse.

  • Luckily the lights flickered only once for us. We don't have a basement so we were fine there. There was some major flooding a block from us, the Cooper River overflowed in some parts. We walked around to check it out yesterday. Glad everyone is safe!

  • Luckily, no water, no power outages and everything seemed to stay in tact. We too slept through the tornado warnings.  I am glad we did, because I probably would have been going crazy.

  • we didnt lose power either but lots of flooding. We have had an issue with water since we bought this house and i blame the shister contractor who sold it to us. so we just put on a brand new roof (which was supposedly the issue) and installed a sub pump. neither helped. we have a flooded front and back basement, and the living room had puddles since the front window and door leaked. all the sheetrock around those has to be replaced. My FIL came over last night and started on the window, he can see behind the entire front wall and it's soaked.i know damages are minor but it's just so frustrating because we can't figure out where the water is coming in from.

I'm sorry! That must be so stressful.

  • Kel, I feel your pain.  We didn't have a ton of trouble with this storm, some leaking around our front window, a minor leak in our bathroom and at our back doors.  But, with every storm we get water somewhere and it is so tough trying to figure out where it is coming from.  It seems that the contractor really cut corners in places and it is so frustrating.

    Glad everyone was safe.

E--this sucks! I would be a hot mess of emotions. Does your homeowners insurance cover it because its a living space?

Wouldnt you know, we now live a few counties west of the Philly region and it seems as though we're the only ones on this board without power! It went out in the middle of the night saturday-sunday and we arent expected to have it back until Wednesday. We even have underground power lines so I thought we'd be in the clear but Im assuming that something went out at the main transistor thingy (Im highly technical). Annoying and inconvenient, but not a big deal.

My friends in Mechanicsburg were also without power. Not sure if it's back on yet or not.

RE: our basement, it JUST got finished so we don't have any stuff down there yet. They may have to re-do some of the drywall and replace the doors so it shouldn't cost too much. I'm still going to check with our insurance though, just in case they do have to rip up the floor or do anything major. The main cost is probably putting in a sump pump and doing more waterproofing (which homeowners won't cover).

LOL. Us too. We had a twig with some leaves that fell on our deck. A TWIG!

I went out this morning to water my container plants b/c they were all looking terribly sad; I had safely "secured" under our porch and the plants haven't been watered for 2 days.

  • We were very lucky and had no power loss and very little water in the basement. On the upside, I now have enough Pumpkin scented candles to last me thorugh the fall.
  • I'm sorry for everyone who had flooding. I'm still a little worried about the Delaware which doesn't peak until tonight, but other then that we had zero issues. Our power went out and cameback on before we could flip on the flashlights.

  • We were lucky and didn't loose power but we did have about 6" of water in our crawlspace at midnight on Saturday-it came pretty close to coming in our tv room which would have sucked...Other than that no downed trees and the cats came willingly to the downstairs with us during the tornado warnings so all was good!

Still waiting to hear from my mom who had to evacuate my hometown...

  • We had no water in our basement and we never lost power once.  My directv even stayed on, which is amazing because the satellite goes out during a mild rainstorm.  It went out here and there but only for a few minutes at a time.  We did have one small leak upstairs in our 2nd floor south facing window and we're not entirely sure from what, but it was just enough to make the walls and carpet wet from several hours of dripping.

Kel and Esyn - that sucks, I am sorry to hear about your basements :(

  • My power was out from Saturday night until this morning at about 2am. DH had to work all weekend (slept out too) and my fam was FREAKING over it... calling/texting all the time. it was sweet but unnecessary since it really wasn't bad around my house... we lose power pretty often.

I had some puddles in my basement but couldn't wet vac because no power :( my basement reeks now.

  • I'll let you know next week Tongue Tied

    DD: 6-24-11

    EDD: 9-20-14

  • I made it home from Maine around 4:30 yesterday. My flight for Sunday was cancelled on Friday and they were able to book me a flight for Monday. Luckily the storm didn't prevent either airport from being open on Monday so there were no further travel issues. The house is fine. We had a very small leak in the front of our basement that resulted in a small amount of dripping. Our roof, that has leaked twice from other storms, held up just fine. A little water came through our old windows but nothing damaging. The only damage came from DH breaking one of my flower pots while trying to move it back onto the porch.

Good luck to everyone that had/has to deal with a bigger mess.
