DH is reading Hunger Games!
My H never enjoyed reading as a kid and has convinced himself that he just doesn't like to read. Ever since I read The Hunger Games series, I've been telling him that he'd really like the books and I tried to get him to read them, but he wouldn't. He's really into the science fiction/dystopian genre when it comes to movies, so the storyline is right up his alley. Being without power for most of the day yesterday was the motivation he needed, though and he started to read the book. He got through 5 chapters and then downloaded it to his ipad so he could read it on the train to and from work. He just emailed me and he's hooked! He said the story is right in his wheelhouse and asked when the movie is coming out. I'm excited to talk about the book with him and the teacher in me is excited that I helped to motivate such a reluctant reader!

I keep trying to tell DH that
1. He will love this movie so he has to go see it with me when it comes out and...
2. That he should really read the books before we do that.
You should totally tell him how hooked my DH is. He actually read more on his lunch break, emailed me to tell me that Katniss should've scored higher than 11 during the private sessions, and decided against staying late at work so that he could get on the train sooner and continue reading. I think he might finish the book tonight...and he'll probably start Catching Fire as soon as he does!

The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly Appalachia.[7]
As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol, every year, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected at random and forced to participate in the Hunger Games: a televised event in which the participants, or "tributes," must fight to the death in a dangerous, outdoor arena, controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains
The story follows a girl named Katniss who volunteers to be a tribute in the place of her younger sister when her sister's name is called.
