Resume question: publications

I'm in the medical education field, and have a PhD from 15 years ago in a scientific field, but mostly unrelated to what I do now. I have a handful of publications that are currently on my resume, but the most recent one is from 2000. Do you think it's still a good idea to keep the old publications on there?

I've contributed to articles since then, but don't have authorship, just acknowledgement that I contributed to them in the writing portion of the article.

Re: Resume question: publications

  • Im currently working as an  analytical chemist and working towards my PhD.  My school recommends placing only recent publications on my resume.  I still lthink its impressive that you have them so I would say its really your calll.  Good luck!

  • Unless you're short of stuff to put on your resume, I would remove them if they are "mostly unrelated" to what you do now. I think resumes need to be targeted to each new position and older or less relevant information can (should) be omitted if it will not strengthen your application.

  • If it's not directly related to what you're doing now, I might add something like:

    PUBLICATIONS:

Authorship on various publications between 19xx and 2000.  Contributions since 2000.  List available upon request.

  • Unless it makes you over qualified for a job, I don't think it would hurt.
