Ideas for a weekend away in the fall?

I'm trying to plan a long weekend away for sometime in the fall. Ideally, it would be no longer than a 2 hour drive or train ride. I'm also looking for some place that is kid friendly. Any ideas?

What are you looking for? We are planning on going to Lewes and Rehobeth Beaches in October. It's so nice and chill. Also very kid friendly.

Portland, Maine is wonderful in the fall (1 hr 20min plane ride). Mystic seaport and Newport by train would be nice. Basically I love new England in the fall.

Have you ever been to Lancaster? It's not that far away and I remember going as a kid and having lots of fun because of all the farms and the pretzel factory tour-we stopped by there on our way to Hershey-which could also be fun!

Also, what about Baltimore?

is hershey park still open in the fall? or the poconos would be nice.

i am a huge fan of upstate ny (4 hour drive) or the martinsburg/berkeley springs, wv area (again about 4 hrs) in the fall. gorgeous scenery and lots of fun family activities.

ering - Hershey is actually quite awesome in the fall! They are open until Christmas at least because I know they have a lightshow that you can drive your car through. I think that'd be a great fall trip!

Last year, we went to Jim Thorpe just for a day in October, but it was a really cute little town, and I think there would be enough to keep you busy over a weekend. The fall colors were beautiful. The town itself had some cute shops/restaurants. There's a scenic train ride and ghost walking tours that you can do, as well as lots of outdoorsy things like bike riding, hiking, horseback riding. I think it was about a two hour drive, give or take, from our house in South Philly. This year, we're doing a weekend in New Hampshire with my BFF and her husband. The live in Boston, so we are flying up there and then driving a couple hours to the White Mountain area of NH, where we rented a cabin.

Ah the white mountains!! My family and I rented a cabin there 4 years ago..it was amazing! The moose are everywhere! And the scenery is beautiful, i went in the summer, i cannot imagine the fall! Our cabin was on a lake and very secluded, i just loved it. It even had a journal for all visitors to write what they did and the animals they saw...very cute! But do enjoy them! You will have a blast I'm sure!
