UPDATED Ugh, mom admitted to hospital

Thanks for all the T&P Ladies...they think it was a just a migraine, she's still in the hospital for a few more tests, but looks like it was not a stroke. They are just being cautious which I guess is for the best. She said she is bored and wants to go home.

I think it's just a migraine, but of course her office staff freaked out and thought she was having a stroke and made her go across the street to the ER.

They did a bunch of tests but admitted her to run more to 100% rule out a stroke. She thinks it is just because she has insurance. Gotta love our healthcare system.

Think good thoughts for my momma.

I know, right? I get the same kind, my dad gets them too...it starts with funny vision issues, then numbness on one side of my body, my face will droop a bit and I have difficulty speaking. Usually once those symptoms subside I will have a pounding headache on the other side (most of the time, the symptoms show up on my left side and the headache appears on my right side which makes sense).

It happened to me the first time at daycare and I wet my pants and couldn't talk. I was 4. I had one at a conference in my early 20s, then I had about 4 in two months in early 2008 at which point I went in for an MRI and they didn't find anything. I now kind of know the early symptoms and if I get some caffeine and into a dark place they usually go away before progressing.

  • Good thoughts for her. My thoughts its always better to be safe than sorry. Does she have a history of migraines?

Right after M and I started dating he had one, his whole left side of his body went numb, he couldn't walk, was slurring his words, his vision was blurred, I was so scared. I was thankful it was a migraine, and the symptoms to watch out for next time. I do have to say we'd be going right back to the ER even knowing this, I just don't think you can too many precautions with these type symptoms.

See my post above! I get the exact same kind of migraines! My mom had not had one since she was in her early 20s, that's why they are taking it seriously.

  • I read that after I posted. M migraine was the first one I had experienced. I've had a migraine, but never anything to this extreme. M should be following up with a neurologist, but typical male, doesn't have time. Thats part of the reason, if he ever exhibited these symptoms I take him back to the er. Plus his imitrex rx is way expired.

Holy Cow you guys! That is one heck of a migraine! I hope she is ok Claire.

  • I hope your mom is ok. That's a super scary migraine. Mine usually just give me blindsight and the typical pounding headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. I did have one where I completely lost my vision once when I was about 17. My mom called the doctor right away and they gave me a shot for it. Thankfully I haven't had one that bad in a long time. I'm much better about catching them early now.

  • Oh good thoughts to your mom!  Glad they are being cautious though.  If I were a co-worker I would have been concerned too as it sounds like the symptoms mimic a few of those associated with a stroke ... though you'd think they'd listen to her since she's experienced it before.

    Keep us posted!
