Re: Irene?
Still kicking!
Only a few casualties at our house so far....
1) last night we got a leak from our oven vent and it caused out (almost brand new) stainless steal oven/stove to spark and short out (the water fell directly where it plugged into the wall and the circuit breaker didn't trip). I'm SUPER SUPER PISSED but we are so lucky it didn't cause a fire. I have no clue if our home owners insurance is going to cover it or what...
2) So far 2 of our "living fence" arborvitaes have uprooted themselves. i'm sad about that but they are just decorative and its not like they could cause damage to our house to vehicles or anything so at least there's that.
other than that, we still have power aside from a few blips and brown-outs and i cant see much other damage to the yard or the neighbors across the street...idk about the rest of New England...but it's just starting to hit us now really..so im sure it will get worse as the day progresses.

Here in VA, we lost power for about 1 minutes last night around 5pm. But it was back on quickly. No damage to my house or yard (it's so tiny there isn't anything that could be damaged).

This. We've seen worse thunderstorms here. No rain this morning, barely any clouds in the sky, and I think all I've seen is a few downed twigs (no branches/trees).
Hope everyone closer to the coast/further north is okay!!
I have a coworker that doesn't get her power back until tomorrow sometime past noon. A few of us have offered for her to come over before school to take a shower, but she wants to see her own kiddos off on the bus for their first day. Cold showers stink!
We've been without power since 9:30 yesterday morning. By mid-afternoon we went to MIL's so we could watch a movie. Then we decided it would be smart to go back home and grab all our food from the fridge and freezer and take it back to MIL's house so it didn't all go bad. We also decided to just stay at MIL's last night.
Other than being annoyed about the power, no damage to our place.
We arrived home from our road trip vacation around 4:30 PM yesterday... we were going to wait until Sunday to leave but I am so glad we left Saturday aftenoon and stopped overnight for a much shorter drive Sunday...
We still have no power. Not sure when it went off though. No major damage to the house or yard, just a bunch of big branches we need to clean up this afternoon. One of our sump pumps did overflow a tiny bit and the other was about 99% full when we found it. Thank God we were able to get our generator up and running before any major flooding ensued. Also thank you to the previous owners for buying the generator and leaving it for us
The fleas are back, however, which is a major pain since they were practically gone when we left (not related to Irene, but no power makes it suck more). So we had to bomb the house again and thank goodness we have the generator so we were able to vacuum out the carpet and furniture... had to sleep at my mom's. DH and I had to share my old twin bed. So uncomfortable.
I'm just hoping the power comes back on this afternoon... I would like to go the the grocery store tonight because we have no fresh fruits/veggies. So frustrating because one street over from us has power (had it all last night), but we don't. Grr.
