I was lucky enough to go up to the north shore with my baby last winter.
No buildings for miles. The weather was great! There would be a lake and a sauna within spitting distance.
As we drove towards the cabin, we noticed a white haze over the road. Over the following 3 days we learned that the "pristine wilderness" we had hoped for did not exsist. The air was being dirtied as if we were in the 3rd world. People were heating their homes as if they were living in the 1400's! They were polutting the very air that their families breathed! They were burning wood for heat. They had RECREATIONAL fire pits or "recreational fire rings".
PLEASE stop burning wood for fun!
And for Pete's sake -THINK ! Do you REALLY need to waste your time with wood as opposed to paying a tiny bit more for the modern heating that your neighbors support? The harm you do to our AIR really matters!
If just 1 of us would stop cooking food on the Weber almost every day, and quit with the nightly bonfires, it would save our planet. Just you. All by yourself.
I quit. So... You're welcome.

Re: "pristine wilderness" DO NOT START FIRES!
I hope this is MUD. Where do you think the other heat and energy comes from?! Fairy farts?? Whether it's wood, coal, or natural gas, it's all some form of carbon. At least wood is a renewable fuel.
There is so much stupid in this post, I don't even know what to say.
I like that you're complaining about air pollution in the pristine wilderness you were driving to. And if you've priced installing central heating, it's around $12,000.
Yes, we can each make small (and large) changes that make a big difference... your approach to "encouraging" others to do so, though, is probably not the most effective one.

this is so out of left field.
spam that doesn't sell anything?
I like cooking over a fire when camping, but I'm pretty sure that your vacation "wilderness" was not "pristine" if you could drive your car (which is also a major source of CO2 pollution much like burning wood). Right now in my state everthing is hazy with smoke, but the source is wildfires, not man-made influence.
