I think I need to fire someone and I feel bad

Ugh, I hate this sort of thing. I think I need to fire my cleaning service. I feel really bad, because the guy who runs the service is one of my neighbors and he's also my dog sitter, which is why I hired them in the first place. But his employees keep leaving for other jobs (we're on our third cleaning person since March), and no one has been great since the first person left. Sigh. I know he's going to ask for us to give his new cleaning person a chance, but I'm kind of wary about letting strangers into my house when I'm not home in the first place, and the constant turnover makes me even more nervous. I just want to move on and find someone more reliable.

Please make me feel better about doing this!

Re: I think I need to fire someone and I feel bad

  • I would do the same thing as you. I would be very wary of letting strangers in as you just never know. With a high turn over rate it makes you wonder if he is hard to work for/with or if these people have other motives.

I am also leery when it comes to hiring friends to do work as if things turn sour it could ruin a relationship.

  • You definitely have every right to make this change. You are paying for a service and the service should meet or exceed your expectations or else you have the right to go elsewhere. I know it sucks because he's someone you know but at the same time that shouldn't make you feel like you need to keep paying for something that is not working for you.

    Well said!

  • business is business!
  • I don't think you should feel bad for having to fire them,  I think he should feel embarassed to have provided such shoddy service.  You held up your end of the deal.  If I were your friend I would be really embarassed by the entire siutation!  Do what you need to do!
  • Thanks everyone. I did it and he understood and it was fine!
