Civil war stuff close to DC?
Our Australian relatives are coming into town in a few weeks and they said they would like to see something Civil War-related. They'll only be here for 2.5 days, and requested to spend time in Georgetown and at Arlington National Cemetery too...
What could we do that would be a half-day trip or less? We're in Old Town Alexandria.
I'd love any suggestions! Thanks!
Julie

I'd strongly recommend a day trip to Gettysburg (it's an easy and pretty drive). And get the guide to drive your car and take you around. You really can't beat the experience, nor get as much out of a half day.
But.. I know that's not what you asked for so..
Bull Run is what I'd suggest, too.
"What is a week-end?"
Fredericksburg has some great civil war sites and is a nice little town to visit.
You could definitely do it in half a day.
