Text speak in home listing?

What impact would seeing text speak on a listing have on your interest?  I ran across one today where the description started off: "U will feel like U R on vacation when U step into this _____" and then went into a more normal description.  I'm all for you using acronyms and abbreviations and I get that they have a limited number of characters for the description but I think this was just unnecessary.  It did make me look at the rest of the listing though!

Re: Text speak in home listing?

  • When we were looking, I was really annoyed if the listing had text speak or spelling mistakes. And there were a lot that were like that. It just looks really unprofessional to me. It didn't stop us from looking at anything, but I still didn't like it.
    Life is good today.
  • Makes me wonder what age group they are catering too with that type of description. So far I haven't run across anything like that, but I do love seeing how they describe a "big beautiful back yard" and it's small enough that I could use scissors to mow it! LOL

  • What is the market like in your area?

Here in Central FL, where there are so many listings that we can be picky, it would be a total turn off for me to the point where I probably wouldn't look at the listing any further.

My concern would be that the listing agent is not professional and would be difficult for our agent to deal with.  Yes that's making some judgments/ assumptions, but that's the risk you run for being unprofessional.

  • Depending on the number of listings in my price range, it may or may not stop me from seeing the house. I would be very worried about the competency and professionalism of the listing agent, though.

Judgey true. It would make me think (possibly inaccurately) that your realtor is an idiot.

  • We aren't currently buying at all (recently purchased in April) but I still love looking at listings for decorating ideas.  I agree that it made me wonder about the professionalism of the seller's agent.  It definitely made it look like they were catering to a younger group, which is funny because its not a hipster neighborhood at all.

  • Another vote for assuming that agent is unprofessional and doesn't know what they're doing.  I'd actually assume the same about the sellers who allowed such a description to be put out there for their property.  As long as it wasn't a one of a kind place I totally loved, I'd pass.
  • My fear with that is that the sellers agent is really unprofessional and it would totally turn me off. Unless it is 100% the perfec thouse in every way? NEXT!
