Woohoo! I had my renewal appt today for my one year residence card. We arrived really early, the meeting took about 15 mins, and I had everything ready and then some! Super fast, super easy. How have your immigration experiences been? Is it this easy for everyone else? I am sure it is much more difficult for long-term residency and citizenship though
Re: Immigration
Yay! So glad it went well.
For me the meeting and handing in the papers was easy, it was receiving my card that was a huge problem. They lost my 1 year card and I received it almost 6 months into the 1 year. Then after my renewal for my 10 year card, that card was also lost.
We didn't really have to many problems with my residency permit. It just took forever. We applied in September and I received my permit in April. Which meant we had to pay an extra 250 francs for a travel visa so I could see my family in January.
It was valid for 5 years but we just went to the Zurich canton office last week to deregister me for September. My time here is almost up. I was getting a little sad but then when we went in to take of the process I was reminded why I want to get the hell out. Very glad that DH speaks German because then I would of been in a even bigger pickle. 30 francs later for a piece of paper saying I'm leaving and we are done.

It's been bad. Really bad (Norway, I'm looking in your direction). God help me if it gets worse, I honestly don't know if my heart can take it....
I'll spare the details but I will say this: Getting my student visa to the UK would've been 100000x less stressful if I had 2 passports. Nothing in this world infuriates me more than having to surrender your passport during a visa application process. This is the 21st century, people, not everybody can live without their passport for extended periods of time.
I'm glad it went to smoothly!
I was up for permanent residency in March. I started e-mailing them the beginning of February and after multiple e-mails, finally heard back from them mid-May with everything I need to do. I had two months to mail in all the forms but I sent everything in after a month. I was told in the e-mail that they have up to three months to assign a case officer to my case. They are definitely taking those three months. If I don't hear anything by the end of September I will have to call them and find out what is going on. I really hope they haven't misplaced my forms. Once they do contact me I don't expect much hassle. My experience so far hasn't been bad, but it hasn't gone as smoothly as I was expecting.
