the worst day of the week

good morning, gals.

things are still strange here...Our neighborhood is like a ghost town...no more yards, just feet and feet of thick mud everywhere.  Dead fish and animals all over.  Debri and garbage and propane tanks have just landed everywhere and are just scattered in yards.  It is amazing and truly devestating to so many people. Yet there are tons of people out cleaning, rebuilding already.  Tons of workers out all over and it makes me cry every time I pass one.  I am writing a letter to the editor today to thank them.

other than that, today is somewhat bearable as tomorrow is my last day of work before our ten day vacation :)

Re: the worst day of the week

  • hang in their shauni!  I can't imagine what that's like.  Sounds like your vacation is coming at the perfect time.

Things are ok here.  Our dog was up sick from about midnight to 5 am yesterday morning, so yesterday was a loooooong day.  Tried to go to bed early last night but once i hit the pillow i was wide awake.

One of the major clinic/hospitals was outed yesterday for potentially exposing thousands of patients to Hep C and HIV over a 5 year span.  Something to do with the way they educated patients how to test themselves for blood sugar (diabetics).  It's a huge major scandel right now.  I can't imagine what it must be like to get that call "Hi, you may have been exposed to HIV a couple years ago when we were educating you on your diabetic testing."  Really?  How do you make that right for a family?!??!

That's all I have right now.  Happy tuesday everyone!

our house is ok, but my little town is literally devastated.  i think we are FB friends, you can see images my friends an i took on my page. my normal run routes (hell, and driving routes!) are all disrupted because the roads are all gone, so I have to find different places to do my runs (i am a person of habit, don't like change, so it is going to be weird running something different than my normal routes!). and our post office was under water so the mail has stopped.  that is the largest way that we were effected.  but literally, our entire neighborhood was under water.  will try to find a picture to post...

  • question, if i have a picture saved on my desktop, how do i post it in here? i know if it is a picture from the web you copy the url code thingy, but if it is a picture already on your computer??

    thanks!

  • Shauni - You have to upload the picture to tinypic.com first before you can put it on here. Its the one thing I can't stand about the nest. Uploading pics on the knot is so much easier.

I have some cuteness to share.

That is Itty von Cat (H named her). I'm going to call her Itsy. She's a himalayan and we get to pick her up the first week in November. I can't wait.

  • I have about a thousand things to do after work today. I need to go get my chef's uniform tailored. I need to go to the library AGAIN because I stuff due yesterday and the library was closed because the servers at the main library were underwater. I have no idea if it'll be open today. I need to figure out what's for dinner and go grocery shopping. I'm SUPPOSED to go to the gym. I need to do at least two loads of laundry. Ugh.

And I super hate my hair right now. I'm trying to grow it out again and it's at a super awkward length. Grr.

  • I can't imagine. I am so glad you are headed for vacation soon! It will be glorious!

So flipping tired!! I was up off and on all night then had stomach issues this morning.

Geege is being very weird-shaky, tail down, not eating some things, so that worried me. I gave him a baby aspirin last night and we took them for a walk. After the walk he didn't move all night and didn't get out of bed this morning. MFD had to go up and get him. He came down the steps ok. We will keep watching him today. I think he might be very sore from tension and exhausted from the same with all the weather issues last week.

I did nothing last night aside from lay with Geege and Gussie the birthday slug. Just packed lunch and gym bag and watched Jersey Shore, The Glades and Rizzoli & Isles.

I did get notification that my train line was running limited service today. It was issued via their alert system and also the 11 o'clock news. I woke up today to a text from Arlene who said they lied, and that only two trains are going into the city today and the last one leaving the city was 1 p.m. They did not announce that on the news or via alert system until 8:15 a.m. when the morning rush is mostly over. WTF. If it's not running from the hurricane, that's fine. Don't issue false information.  Do what Amtrak did and simply say we don't know when we're restoring service.

Tonight I have Relay trivia night from 8-11. I am tired in advance!

  • Shauni, sorry to hear that :(  Hopefully things get set right soon!

Jeff and I got back late last night (crazy airport crap) and I'm exhausted this morning.  I tried to stay on East Coast time, but wasn't entirely successful, so I'm a zombie today.  My trip was pretty good - Seattle was awesome, as was the train ride to Portland.  Portland was tolerable, and I'm very happy for my mom and her new husband.  The wedding was kind of a train wreck, but the vows were very sweet and I'm glad we were there.

No one is here at work and I'm wondering why.  Also, three packages arrived for me while I was gone (how come shipping is never that fast when I'm home?); one was at my doorstep, one is at the leasing center, and I'm not sure about the third.  I'm a little worried because it was delivered USPS and they usually just leave them at my door, and obviously it wasn't there.  UGH.  The one thing that did come was my much-anticipated Anthro top, and it's enormous and has to be returned.  Sigh.

  • First day of school! We are crazy here in the office. They changed our security procedures and it's really confusing so that it is adding to first day craziness.

We had our draft last night. Greg kept teasing me if he had the pick before me he was going to steal Tom Brady from me. Of course he was 6 I was 7 after threats of stabbing him he didn't pick him and I for the 4th year in a row have tommy. The drafted took a lot longer then I would have like and we didn't get home till 10:45.

Tonight is catch up on DVR night from Sunday.

  • Shauni, I can't imagine... K and I were watching the news last night and they kept showing Quechee with the cars floating down the river and the bridge ripped up.  It's awesome that you live in such a tight-knit community that is going to be there for each other to help rebuild.  I don't feel like there are many places left like that.

LTB - Itsie is so cute!  Almost makes me want another one.  Don't you already have a kitty?  How do you think that's going to go introducing them to each other?

I had a fairly lazy night last night.  Trying to get all the loose ends together for our trip, and K isn't doing anything to help.  I swear, he may end up over there with no toothbrush or underwear...

  • Shauni - My thoughts are with you and friends/family.  The pictures are just devastating and I can't imagine what it's like in person.

DH didn't tell me we were sleeping in and taking the later train (a difference of half an hour).  But when we got to the station the platform was packed!  People had been waiting an hour for a train.  Luckily, the one that finally showed up had room.  It didn't last more than a stop, but I wasn't too late to work.

While I enjoyed having yesterday off, it kind of throws a wrench into this week's schedule.  I'm a little worried because I have to leave at some point Thursday for a not-quite-interview (if I ever get a confirmation).  And next week is a short week which already crunches our schedule.  So this week and next week will be interesting.

  • Yep, I already have a cat. I have no idea how the introductions are going to go. Gidget is 9 and rather set in her ways. I'm thinking H and I are going to take some alternating vacation days to spend home and see how the kitties will interact.

I'm hoping it goes well, but I'm expecting Gidget to give me a "WTF is that and why is it in my house?" look and then proceed to hide until the bed with a pissed off scowl on her face for a few days.

I think I need to buy one of those "how to introduce a new pet into your home" books.

I always threaten Jeff with this.  If left to his own devices, I am pretty sure he would wind up buying a whole new wardrobe at his destination because he'd forget so much stuff.

LTB - good luck acclimating the kitties.  My cat did not like her companions when a friend of mine took her for two weeks, and now I'm scared to get another cat.

This. I'm glad you're writing a letter to the editor, I'm sure any worker who reads the paper will smile because you're probably one of many (I hope) that are thanking them.

So yesterday, got home and it was hot, so I opted to cook dinner early in hopes of exercising once it cooled off. By the time it was done, H was home and we both ate dinner (yummy chicken burritos) and then about an hour later, I took Allie the dog on a 3 mile walk (and let her jump into the creek to cool off). I think I'm over the warmish weather now.

DH and I did a good deed yesterday, a neighborhood kid (12 yr old boy) came by to ask if we need our lawn mowed and dog poop picked up; we agreed to pay him $20 and he's coming by this weekend to mow. While talking to him, he mentioned that his backpack for school has a huge hole in it so he wants to earn his own money to buy a new backpack, new shoes, or whatever else he wanted that his mom and step-dad couldn't afford. I looked at James and we both remembered that we have a used backpack we could give him. I dug around and found the backpack and gave it to him. He was really grateful for it. He also mentioned that his family is probably moving because they are close to losing their home Sad We don't live in a poor area or neighborhood, but, I guess his family is having a hard time making ends meet & when we put 2+2 together on why he was so eager to mow our lawn or wash his car, we agreed that he could come by once a month or twice a month (we can't afford to have him come by once a week for chores).

    Sorry for the novel.

Good luck!  We brought home our second cat when my older one was 5.  I thought she would have nurturing instincts or something, but nope.  The big cat was scared to death of the baby and hid under the bed and hissed and carried on.  We've had the younger one for 4 years now, and they still aren't 100% nice to each other.

Hopefully you'll have better luck.  I would definitely do some reading on how to introduce them to one another.  I'm not sure if we really went about it the right way... :-)

  • This morning has been insane. I finally have my only free block til 3:00 at which point I have to race across town to be at the outpatient clinic. I have 3 patients this afternoon and one which is an eval at 5:15. This eval will take at least 90 minutes (what the owner told the mom) but the test is so invasive, I've never given the whole thing at once. Dreading this afternoon but the extra moola will be nice.

J thought he left/lost his new sunglasses at the tennis courts Sunday so texting me frantically asking if they're in my car. They were. Lucky joker. I would've been locked up for killing him had he lost this pair too. Then the heifer went and bought a new pair of shoes. So much for any extra in the bank account. I've gotta figure out a way so he has some money and once it's gone, it's gone. I tried the cash allowance type thing but he went through that and then used the card. I hate having to open up another bank account but maybe we'll do that.

  • Sunshine - yay yay yay for leaving soon on your trip!  I am super jealous and excited for you guys.

Shauni - ditto!  The Keys are on our list of places to go...maybe sometime when we do Disney World and we're already across the country from home.

I'm just trying to get going this morning.  Had jury duty yesterday, which meant spending all day at the main courthouse (took me an hour to drive there and park!) waiting, only to be told our case settled.  It's a good thing, though, because the judge said the trial would have taken most of September, and I was within the first half dozen names on the first panel.  Eep!  I really wouldn't mind doing jury duty at some point, but I've got doctor's appointments every 2 weeks now, and am still feeling sick every other day.

  • Morning all.

I'm late getting here this morning. Not much going on in my life right now to tell you the truth. Made banana bread and cookies yesterday. H bought 8 pounds of burger so we can actually eat something that is food (and that makes some leftovers for H's lunch) for a few days. Getting really creative with dinners lately since I don't know when I'll have cash to actually go grocery shopping again.

On tap for today is hoping that I can run Piper to the vet for her yearly shot and pick up flea/heartworm stuff for September for both of them... $80 gone. Whoo.

I'm not in the best mood... can you tell?

I will warn you that it is probably a 8 hour drive drom Disney to the Keys. Not sure if Orlando airport has a direct flight into Key West. For you it makes sense since you are coming from across the country but just for planning purposes it's not super close. However, I am only an hour drive from Disney:)

I called VS and the customer service rep was like "oh, that's wrong. we'll send out another bra." The next day, a bra showed up on my doorstep. Five days, another bra showed up on my doorstep.

  • We'd like to do Disney in the summer, probably 2 years from now. SD is completely in love with Mickey Mouse, but we want to take her when she's old enough to really enjoy everything. She'll be 4 then. The perfect age for Disney magic, IMO.

Shauni, I'm glad you're ok and that you get to leave town. All the devastation must really dampen your spirits. T&P are with you and your neighbors!

I am exhausted. When I get home all I want to do is sleep, but we have plans and I have to get dressed up. *Sigh* I have been super-tired lately. I thought it was from our week with SD, but I should have recovered from that by now, especially with all the sleep I got over the weekend. Maybe there is something wrong with me.

I must admit I have a Sophie Kinsella problem. I love everything I read by her. I wish I could stop. If DH ever decides to read a book on the iPad Kindle, he will have to sort through all the chick-lit first, and will probably throw the darn thing in disgust. LOL! I just read Twenties Girl in a day.
