Just perfect....Vent

Just a quick vent....

So I thought I was going to have wonderful two day weekend, took Saturday off so i could go to my niece's b-day, and I stop over at my dads to find they have had a few calls for me from some guy. Looking for how to get in touch with me they know better then to give my info out so i called him back to see what he wants, turns out hes some collection place looking to collected on some bill that I thought was taken care of 5 almost 6 years ago. So now I'm all twisted about that, and nothing i can do till Monday morning. Now i have to go back and call my dads insurance company that I've haven't been covered by for almost 3 years and see what the heck happened. I so don't like this feeling

  • Ugh, that sucks, I'm sorry.  Bill collecting calls are the worst.  Just be careful and make sure it's a legit debt because I paid one credit card off years ago but then randomly started getting letters and calls from a bill collector stating I owed $500 dollars.  I knew 110% I paid this off, so I googled the phone number I was getting the calls from and it turns out it's a company that buys old files and then claims the people don't pay them, so this is actually hurting my credit rating but I was advised not to contact them at all because every call I make to them reopens it on my credit report for x amount of years.  I don't know how any of this is legal but definitely be careful especially since you don't know what the 'debt' is from.

  • That does really suck. That happened to DH with a medical bill a couple of years ago (not as long as 5 years though). He had moved and had his mail forwarded to his new address and one of the labs that had run some blood work didn't get the bill forwarded and never bothered to call the cell number or contact him but sent the bill to collections. It's funny how the lab office couldn't find him, but the collections office had no problem. We just had to get a letter written detailing what happened to add to his credit report so that it didn't affect us when we applied for our mortgage. I hope your is as relatively easy to solve as it was for us and not one of the scammer agencies like Xan was dealing with. Good luck!

  • I'm furious over this!!!  how is that legal?!
  • That is so frustrating.  I agree with Xan, make sure it is legit.  Maybe get your credit report, it should be on there.

  • grr! that is soo annoying! its crazy how collection companies can come back after that long, seems like they'd have to drop it at some point.
