So now that it's public that my company has been bought-out, going to work is the strangest thing I've ever experienced. Over half of the company has already been laid off (which was terrible, btw), and everyone left knows it's only a matter of time until they're laid off as well. So, the office is fairly empty during the week.
I left the house late this morning and because of school traffic, didn't get to work until almost 9am. When I got here, I realized I was the only one here from my division. In fact, we're now pushing 10am and I'm still the only one here. There are few people over in billing and customer support, but that's it (and they're in a completely different wing of the office so I can't even hear them).
Apparently my coworker is home today, and I just got an email from the Sales Director saying he's working from home because he no longer has a sales team to support (sad!). My boss is in Atlanta sucking up to the new company to buy our marketing team (me and my coworker) a month or two of additional employment, so I'm by myself. WEIRD!
The only upside is that now I can job search during the day without feeling guilty
. My boss openly supports my job search, but it still makes me feel weird when she can hear me doing a phone interview!
Anyway, just had to share. Not having anyone to talk to at work stinks!
Re: Weird
Our office gets dead quiet around 3:30 and I look around whispering, echo....echo....echo..... I couldn't imagine the awkwardness of knowing things were shifting/ending soon for everyone on top of that.
Good luck, for now just enjoy the alone time.
It's totally weird. I'm sure in the future I'll dream of quiet time again, but right now I don't like it! All I have left to do has to do with transition, so it's not even like I can use the quiet time for quality work time. Oh well. Hopefully once my boss comes back it'll be a little louder!
